Where does the data come from?
Audiogon collects resale prices from a variety of sources, including online listings, input from dealers of used equipment, and information received from manufacturers.  The vast majority of used prices shown are the average price of recorded sales.  If there are not enough recorded sales for a particular model, then the algorithm makes a prediction based upon the overall resale prices of that brand, and the resale prices of that type of component in general.  These algorithms account for age, depreciation, mechanical devices, and many other variables.

How accurate is the information?
We continuously verify and update data such as retail prices, model versions, etc.  However, there will be some variables such as changing retail prices and various finishes.  Retail prices shown are generally the original price, which may have risen over the years of a model's lifetime.  Retail prices shown are also of the "standard" version, which does not account for premium finishes, for example. Thus, the retail prices shown are usually the lowest original price for each model.

Why do I have to pay to access this data?
The Online BlueBook is a monumental task that requires daily maintenance by knowledgeable people.  In addition the BlueBook takes massive computing power to store, analyze, and display the data.  The nominal subscription fees insure our ability to provide timely and accurate data.
