Highly acclaimed PS Audio Digital Link III DAC with Cullen’s
Signature Stage IV mods (Wyred4Sound), purchased new at a special price of $1,290.00
(normally $1,840.00).  The base DLIII was
a highly regarded, sweet sounding 24 bit DAC with coaxial, toslink, and USB
inputs, and fully balanced XLR and single ended RCA outputs.  The Cullen Signature Mod took a very good DAC
and made it great.  The mods included:

  • Replace 28 resistors in the
audio signal path with Dale Rn55d copper leaded parts

  • Replace 11 electrolytic
capacitors with audio grade Muse caps

  • Replace 8 FET’s in the DAC’s
output stage with hand matched low noise parts

  • Install ERS cloth

  • Install WBT NextGen 210cu
    RCA jacks

  • Install clock modification
    board replacing internal clocks

If
you’ve researched DACS, you’ll appreciate the discreet FET output stage (no
opamps here) and the high end power supply with a huge transformer (see the
stock photo). Bottom line is this: if you want high-end performance you need a
high-end power supply.  Inside the DLIII
is a huge transformer, coupled to many thousands of microfarads of capacitance,
Linear Technologies regulators and high speed, low noise diodes.

There is upsampling selection on the front panel from 44 kHz to 96
kHz and 192 kHz.  Also, my DAC has the
power switch option on the rear of the DAC, so you can leave it on all the time
or turn it off when not in use or while on vacation, etc.

The Cullen modified DL III sounds great using my Oppo universal
player as a transport (coaxial input), with my Logitech Squeezebox Touch with
uncompressed wave files streamed from my computer’s iTunes collection (it can
be used with a CD player, transport, or media device, and it connects to a
computer through its USB connection, which is how I connect the Touch), and
with my TiVo (optical input).  The DL III
gives a wide and deep soundstage with nice separation of instruments/voices and
solid, but articulate bass.  It digs out
more resolution and greater detail, bringing the life back into your music, but
remains sweet sounding.  My Cullen/PS
Audio DL III functions perfectly and sounds fantastic.

Please check my feedback and buy with
confidence.  As you can see, I’ve been
pretty happy with my system lately and have made no recent transactions, but I
am now trying to simplify my audio world (please see my other items for
sale).  Thanks for looking.
