THIS AUCTION IS OPEN TO BIDDERS IN THE U.S. AND CANADA.

IF YOU DON’T LIVE IN THE U.S. OR CANADA, PLEASE DO NOT BID.

THANK YOU.

We’re Stereo Exchange, located in New York City. We've been in business since the 1970s and are a major high-end dealer. We have all the current top brands on display in our huge showroom.

  • This is NOT a CD player. It’s a CD Turntable (Transport) that will require a D/A converter (or a home-theater processor with a digital input) to operate.

This is a special item.

It’s actually conceived of to be a turntable for CDs, and its in amazing condition, with no significant blemishes on the transport that I can find. There are some hairline scratches on the acrylic cover which, with some work, you can probably polish out. It looks great as it is, though.

There’s a super-thick acrylic cover you lift up. Then you place your disc on the hub. Finally, a disc clamp is placed on the disc to damp vibrations.

The transport floats on a suspension that damps out vibration for the lowest disc reading errors.

There are feet on the bottom that can be leveled by big metal knobs on the TOP.

That’s ironic, since the transport in this player is almost immune to leveling needs anyway!

On the other hand, EVERY aspect of this player is overkill, including the sheer mass of the machined chassis.

The transport in this player is the spactacular Philips transport, similar to the one that McIntosh and Studer/Revox used. It works differently than all others.

In other machines, the laser slides back and forth on two glides. In 99% of those, there is a motor that moves the laser head back and forth through a set of reduction gears. When changing tracks, it speeds way up. That’s why other players make so much more noise when changing tracks.

This transport uses a brushless motor to spin the disc. This main motor will last many times longer than the cheap motors in most other machines. The laser is at one end of an arm. At the other end is a counterbalancing weight. In the center is a precision bearing assembly.

There is no friction or “play” in the bearing, like a fine tonearm. There are a pair of electromagnets above/below the arm.

When the laser needs to move, magnetic “pushes” and “pulls” swing the arm back and forth. When you change tracks, the Push or Pull is just stronger. There are no glide rails to get dirty or need lubrication. There is no rotary motor and set of plastic gears to wear out. This transport is built for long life.

Discs that are old and scratched and have become unplayable on all other players will often sail right through on this transport.

This player can be tilted and wild angles and still play.

I will venture a guess that this transport will outlast your need for a CD player, and that it will outperform any other transport ever made by any company.

If you disagree, don’t email me.

I’m a 52 year-old East Coast Jewish audiophile…that means I’m not going to change my mind based on your opinion! OK, that’s a little harsh.

This CD Transport, if built today, would cost at least $10,000, probably more.

Just the hunk of solid acrylic used for the top cover would cost a fortune today.

By the way, if you let go of the lid, a damping mechanism makes it float slowly into place…like a great cueing level on a turntable…notice a theme here?

The player comes with a power cord and the heavy-metal remote control (which was tested, too).

With any “semi-vintage” mechanical piece there is some risk, but I played four discs through and it never skipped a beat, so I believe this is as safe a purchase as you can have, for any CD transport its age. I just want you to realize that we cannot guarantee any mechanical piece of this vintage.

  • The RESERVE is only $588.00.

Please give it a good home.
