This turntable started life as a Rega Planar 2 but it hardly resembles the original anymore. The TT and most notably the plinth were made by a company called North 50 Audio (eBay) and is covered with a beautiful veneer. It is much more substantial than the original plinth.

There is one of these for sale on eBay right now; that will give you an idea as to what it was like when I began modifying it.

The tonearm on mine is the venerable RB-250 - I added the metal endstub and an underslung Michell Tecnoweight. North 50 Audio swapped the original RCAs with Neutrik connectors.

I replaced the original 120v motor with the much quieter and more stable 24v version. Speed is controlled by an outboard turntable power supply (TT-PSU), which is switchable from 33rpm to 45rpm with the push of a button. The addition of this motor means the IEC jack in the back is no longer used.

The original pulley has been replaced with a Lim dual pulley that allows two silicon belts to be run simultaneously. The original plastic sub platter was replaced with a two-piece aluminum TangoSpinner (GrooveTracer clone). A note about the TangoSpinner; mine has a couple of scratches in it. The silicon ring around the top was un-even and it drove me crazy - so instead of sending it back I fixed it. Well it’s now dead even but not as pretty as it was. With a mat in place you never see this, but worth mentioning.

The stock bearing has been replaced with a zirconium version. I heard zero difference but for ~$5 (Boca Bearing) what the heck.

The stock glass platter actually sounded better (to me, in my system) than the acrylic version, so that’s why it hasn’t been upgraded. I’ll include a felt mat as well as a rubber one so you can decide which you prefer. The turntable will come with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge.

Table/arm/TT-PSU/Ortofon 2M Red - $895

I could use all kinds of superlatives to describe the sound but you get the idea – It sounds really, really good. I’ve got an opportunity to jump on a VPI Classic 3 so this TT needs to find a new home.

You pay for shipping and I’ll pack it safely! If you have any questions please feel free to fire away.
