Marantz SA-14S1 SACD player & DAC. Current model. $2,500 MSRP

The SA-14S1 is an exceptional sounding SACD player for a near "bargain" price of $2,500 (its MSRP). The resolution from this player is just amazing. Especially with SACDs. The accuracy in its musical reproduction is almost as compelling with our Esoteric P-03/D-03 transport/DAC combo that costs thousands more. Of course the Esoteric is a two piece setup with much better built quality and is coming in from a reference level category, but for the money, the Marantz has a lot going for it. It may be a one box unit but it has the same high built quality standard and can also act as a DAC for three other digital component including a USB input (which the Esoteric D-03 does not have). In our auditioning of the player, it came across as a pretty well balanced player with excellent timbral accuracy. It does necessitate a good amp and speakers to really bring the strength of the player one full circle but for under $1,500 now, you could very well be on your way to this audio nirvana without spending more than $5,000. Cosmetically, the unit looks pretty good. Minor scuff marks here and there from use but nothing major. We have the original remote and will securely pack this for safe shipping.
