The Auralic Vega DAC simply sounds fantastic, looks gorgeous and represents a tremendous value. Numerous professional reviews unanimously declare the Vega DAC one of the best DACs available.
"I am tempted to declare that, at $3499, the Auralic Vega is a bargain. For just over 5% of the price of the dCS Vivaldi three-piece DAC, the Vega got remarkably close in sound quality..." - Stereophile

"When I add up the evidence of sonic elegance, comprehensive featurization, excellent build quality and dual-format top-resolution compliance, there's only one appropriate response: rousing applause (pipe that in now in full DSD128 or native 24/384) and a very blue award." - Sixmoons
About the Auralic Vega DAC
The Auralic Vega is housed in an elegant aluminum chassis, with an amber OLED display. The look is distinctively modern and simple. The size is smaller than your typical audiophile component, coming in at dimensions of 11"W x 9"D x 2.5"H. This makes it a little easier to place in a room without dominating the decor. There are 5 Digital inputs; 1 AES/EBU, 2 Coaxial, 1 Toslink, and 1 USB 2.0 input buffered by Auralic's ActiveUSB™ technology. It comes with a remote, and weighs 7.5 pounds out of the box.
It supports all high resolution music formats including DXD(352.8KS/s, 384KS/s in 32bit) as well as DSD streaming at 2.8224MHz and 5.6448MHz.
"The $3,500 Auralic Vega digital to analog converter is quite possibly the best DAC I've heard at this price." - Computer Audiophile
What Makes The Auralic Vega Unique
AURALiC uses what they call the Sanctuary Audio Processor to upsample PCM input data to approximately 1.5MHz and 32-bit depth, to provide what Auralic calls the ActiveUSB buffer stage, and to implement four reconstruction filters for PCM data and two choices of low-pass filter for DSD data.
This also strategically bypasses the ESS Sabre 9018's internal upsampler. Claimed advantages include lossless digital volume, very shallow reconstruction filters, higher analog bandwidth and faster slew rates.
They also implement a very precise, "Aerospace grade" Femto Master Clock to provide ultimate clock precision with jitter at an extraordinarily low 82 femtoseconds(0.082 picosecond). The Vega uses the optimal clock window for any source; Coarse, which offers the widest bandwidth of input lock, to allow the Vega to work with very jittery sources; Fine, which narrows the lock acceptance window to give the lowest jitter with high-quality streams; and Exact, which will only give lock with only very low-jitter streams but gives the highest sound quality. It is recommended that before engaging the Exact mode the Vega DAC should be on for at least an hour to establish thermal equilibrium before reaching it's specified performance condition.
Flexible Filter Mode - The Auralic Vega offers additional selectable PCM filters such as linear-phase and minimum-phase options, as well as two slow-rolloff types. Their are two DSD filter options that offer different degrees of ultrasonic rolloff, to prevent the format's noiseshaping from contaminating the downstream amplification.
Orfeo Class A Module - In order to drive various loads, matching different power amplifiers, the VEGA DAC is powered with AURALiC's patented ORFEO Class-A module which is inspired by the Neve 8078 analog console’s circuit design as the output stage. The principle of this module is to use a mass of small signal components with the best linear characteristic. By packing them though a thermal balance procedure and biasing the transistors into Class-A, the ORFEO module achieves impressive performance with open loop distortion less than 0.001%. The ORFEO module used in the VEGA DAC has been selected and tweaked for lower noise while maintaining its driving capability for 600ohm loads without raising distortion levels.
"Everything I played through the Auralic Vega was equally wow-inducing. Everything. . . . Music I've heard hundreds of times was presented with a crisp, clean, and delicate clarity that was simply uncanny and made things old, new again. . . . Its ability to turn music reproduction into an engaging and thrilling musical experience is simply stunning." - AudioStream
