I have an unfortunate need to obsessively compare high end hi-fi equipment. My latest kick is MM Moving Magnet Cartridges. With multiple heads that easily attach to my SME-type turntable arm I can quickly switch them out and A-B the sound, tracking and get an overall impression.
What I'm not so good at is discerning what actually sounds best so I almost always choose on esthetics - which one looks the best.
The competition here was an Ortofon Super OM-40 and this Nagaoka MP-110H. (The H stands for Head Shell). Over the course of a few hours this past week I listened, compared, evaluated and ultimately determined that to my ear they both sound terrific... but the color of the Nagaoka just doesn't work for me. Perhaps it works for you? The sound will, for sure! (NB: The cartridge is easily detached from the head shell and can be mounted to any tonearm that you choose).
