PREFER LOCAL BUYER: SF BAY AREA. CAN DELIVER WITHIN 150 MILES.
Getting ready for a move, so I've been selling off my collection of turntables. Am now down to the one I've owned the longest, Thom Mackris' Galibier Quattro SE, purchased in 2003. This is a superb table for anyone who appreciates an artisan product offered by a deeply committed engineer, craftsman and fellow analog music enthusiast. Art Dudley wrote a informative piece on the history of Galibier and its relationship to Redpoint and the Teres project, along with his listening impressions of the Quattro Signature, which differs only cosmetically from the Quattro SE: https://www.stereophile.com/artdudleylistening/1004listening/index.html
As for condition, I've always babied it, kept covered when not in use, it's in really fine shape as the photos show. Possibly a 9, but will call it an 8 to be conservative. The polished aluminum has some hairline scratches, but nothing that would suggest its age.
This has the original pivoting arm mount that can accommodate most any arm length. Thom provided me with a nice mahogany armboard for my JMW 12.5 arm (pictured). I will include the JMW arm and armboard for an additional $800. You can fabricate new arm mounts using the wood of your choice, or Thom can supply a machined aluminum mount specific to your arm. Thom will upgrade the base to the Mk 1.5 sliding armboard assembly for a reasonable price. This is one of the great advantages of Galibier, even the oldest models can be upgraded.
Base is a composite of MDF (textured black) and aluminum, filled with lead shot. The composite platter is teflon bolted to an aircraft aluminum carrier with lead and oil damping. Together with the high mass platter, the superb bearing is the heart of the Galibier; it remains the current design and will last decades.
This unit includes Thom's 2014 motor controller upgrade, plus the fabric belt and the Tenma power supply. Thom says the new spliceless kapton belt is superior, but I haven't tried it. Thom recently announced a new motor controller upgrade ($325). With the Teddy Pardo PS that he now recommends ($414), Thom says it's a significant improvement.
Purchase price includes the original Galibier Anvil lead filled record weight, a $350 option. Easily the best and highest quality such item I've ever used. Also the heaviest.
I've mostly used the Quattro on either a Townsend seismic sink platform or a sandbox. I will include the walnut sandbox for any local buyer who meets my purchase price.
Given the weight, the multiple boxes, and risks of shipping, I prefer local buyer, and can deliver within 150 miles, but may consider shipping.
