It’s long been known that the quality of mains power can have a
dramatic effect on the performance of hi-fi & home cinema systems. A
clean, quality power supply requires cables resistant to external
interference and noise on the mains itself.

Power management is required principally as a result of the
increasingly negative impact of electical, radio frequency and
electromagnetic noise pollution flooding our homes and daily life. With
increasing use of high resolution audio and video content our replay
equipment has come under assault by extraneous high energy broad
spectrum noise, both airborne and directly induced through the mains
supply circuits. Wi-fi networks, BlueTooth devices, mobile &
domestic cordless phones, ‘wallwart’ power adapters, low voltage light
bulbs & dimmer switches are among the worst noise-generating
culprits.

Eos power cables are sophisticated products designed specifically to
allow your equipment to perform properly. Built around high purity low
resistance OFC (Oxygen Free Copper), with low series resistance,
high-efficiency dielectrics and extensive screening, Eos power cables
effectively filter out harmful incoming radio frequency and power
contamination, dumping these rapidly to earth. By comparison a typical
domestic power lead in comparison, lacks the quality of component parts
and precise assembly Atlas employ in Eos.

For maximum effectiveness, Eos cables are best used as part of a complete Power Management System.

PTFE Dielectric 

PVC (Poly Vinyl
Chloride) is cheap to produce and, as such, is the most commonly used
insulation in AV cables. However, PVC is the worst quality insulation a
Hi-Fi or AV signal can encounter as its high loss causes a significant
reduction in signal velocity. PVC is better suited to power cables and
should be avoided in Hi-Fi and AV signal cables.

Other
dielectrics in common use are Polyethylene, Polypropylene and
Polytetrafluoride Epoxy (better known as PTFE (Teflon™) or Teflon,) and
the new and unique Atlas (PTFE).

PTFE
(Teflon™) is usually applied at higher temperatures and in combination
with OFC conductors. OCC materials don’t like high temperatures
(soldering, applying the dielectric etc) so application of a low
temperature PTFE (Teflon™) or FEP work best with OCC conductors. This is
especially critical at smaller conductor sizes.

The
table below shows the properties of a selection of dielectrics. Though
not used as a dielectric in Atlas' cables, PVC is included for
comparison purposes.

Precision-machined Atlas-designed mains connectors with
silver/rhodium-plated pins for low contact resistance. Available in UK
(13A Silver), Schuko & Nema versions depending on country of
original supply.
