Denon DP-2000 Quartz Direct Drive
Turntable - in very good condition.

For audition and pick-up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

If you are looking for a great entry into Vinyl playback, this could be a sweet deal for you. I am the original owner of this turntable, but I no longer play vinyl. Included are a Denon Quartz Direct DriveTurntable, a Denon wood base, a Luxman tonearm, an almost new cartridge, a turntable mat that helps reduced vibrations from your vinyl, and a granite anti-vibration base to rest the whole setup on.

I bought the Denon turntable back in1978 or 79.  I also purchased the Denon 2550 Direct Drive record deck/wood base that allowed me to choose any tonearm I want, rather than the stock tonearm.  For a tonearm I chose the LUXMAN / MICRO SEIKI TA-1 TONEARM over the SME tonearm because the Luxman was straight which was supposed to be more ridged than curved arms. Included is an almost brand new Audio-Technica AT440MLa Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge that I purchased about two & a half years ago.  The cartridge has less than ten hours on it.  I stopped buying records in the 80s and now my records are all old – from my college days.  I didn’t mistreat them but there are clicks & pops on them that I just don’t care to deal with.

The heartof the system is the Denon DP-2000 turntable. It looks great and plays great as well. The unit starts up and the turntable speed locks in after about one second and stays perfectly steady.  I recently tried both speeds and the both work great.

Here are the original specifications from Denon

Drive system: Direct drive by AC servo motor

Speed control: Frequency detection servo motor phaselocked to a quartz crystal oscillator

Speed: 33.33 and 45rpm

Speed selection: Slide switch

Wow and flutter: Less than 0.015% WRMS

S/N ratio: Over 75dB (DIN-B rated)

Starting time: Less than 1.5 seconds

Absolute speed accuracy: Over 99.998%

I have always been extremely happy with my choice of the Luxman TA-1 tonearm.  It has always been very smooth and yet rock solid throughout the life of this turntable.  At the time of purchase, according to the various stereo magazines, this arm was generally considered the second best arm available, right behind SME.  Two years ago, when I bought the Audio Technica cartridge, Dave, the owner of Sound Stage Music installed the cartridge and told me the Luxman tonearm was the best balanced tonearm he had worked with in a long time.

The cartridge is an Audio-Technica AT440MLa Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge.  I bought it about two and a half years ago but I just don’t play records anymore, so the cartridge has less than 20 hours on it.

Here are some of the listed features of the AT 440MLa:

Dual moving magnet

Paratoroidalcoil design

Gold-platedberyllium cantilever

Frequency response: 5Hz-32kHz

Extremely precise dual-movingmagnet phono cartridge MicroLine shaped diamond stylus closely trackstough-to-reach grooves

Multi-level stylus shape wears evenly over time to extendrecord life

Here is one reviewer’s comparison review:

The AT440MLA vs similar cartridges

The Shure M97xE is the AT440MLA’s most respected competitor. At a similar price range, the ‘general consensus’, if such things matter to you, is that the AT440MLA wins by a sliver. It comes down to sound of
course – the Shure M97xE is rather a flat sounding cartridge, which some people
particularly love. If the rest of your system sounds overly warm, the Shure is a good cartridge to tone that down alittle. Conversely, the AT440MLA is on the
brighter side and will warm up flat sounding systems.

The M97xE has a particular knack of minimizing tracking and background noise, a trait
common to most of the Shure fleet. The AT440MLA’s tracking is perhaps a
little better however and produces slightly more dynamic range. If you’ve heard ‘flat’ or ‘bright’ sounding carts before then you’re probably already aware of your personal preference and will buy accordingly. Those unfamiliar with cartridge subtleties will likely get more joy out of the Audio Technica AT440MLA since it has a more characteristically ‘vinyl’ sound.

To find out more about the AT 440MLa cartridge you can find ten pages of commentary, by many owners, at: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/audio-technica-at440mla.246406/

Also included is a turntable mat that holds the record tight to the mat thereby reducing vibrations from the record itself.  The mat is black and is in the pictures.

Lastly also included is a Discwasher Turntable Base which appears to be made out of granite or a granite-like material.

Although I don’t play records anymore, this has been my “baby” for a long time.  I’ve kept in in as close to excellent condition as I could. I’ll rate it as an “8” so no one will be disappointed.  So far, everybody who has bought my equipment has really liked the condition.

With no children, no pets, no smoking and a humidity controlled listening room my turntable has been shielded from the usual problems. I haven't altered them in any way and I have not needed any repairs with the exception of the cartridge upgrade.

The price is $475 - firm.  To buy the Luxman tonearm alone would cost over $400, so I believe this is a fantstic bargain.

Unfortunately, I will not ship these, so pick up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the only option. This is a cash deal only I do not use PayPal. Instead, I will sell these subject to your final approval by an in-house audition.  You can pay once you've seen and heard the
turntable play your favorite records.
