This is a one time only, not to be repeated sale of a pair of limited edition and very rare Elrog 284 tubes that were acquired as testing tubes for an OEM Hi Fi One / Berning single-ended OTL amplifier project. They were exclusively used in amplifier development and have less than 200 hours of operation. The testing is complete, hence the sale. Note: I am not a dealer, nor am I a country re-seller of Elrog vacuum tubes.

These tubes have electrical characteristics very close to the 845 and glow orange vs (blue).

History: The number '284' was last used by Western Electric in the 1930's to denote their Molybdenum vs standard Carbon plate (845 equivalent)  vacuum tubes.

Molybdenum is utilized in the current Elrog 284 for its increased electrical conductivity over the standard carbon plate 845 tubes. This is the same reason Western Electric briefly made vacuum tubes with Molybdenum plates in the 284D.

Why were they discontinued by Western Electric in the 1930's. Then as now, Molybdenum is a difficult metal to form vacuum tube plates from and requires specialized equipment and assembly.  Simply stated they are much harder to make than standard carbon plate tubes.

Elrog 284's are made with Teflon bases which are black in the exterior color and are wired with solid core silver wire inside the bases.
