The REL ACOUSTICS STORM III ACTIVE SUB WOOFER: I
bought this sub very specificallyfor two channel music for an all tube
set up I had with McIntosh in wallspeakers and needed a bit more punch. I
think of it more as a music sub to extend the low-end you may be missing
from smaller speakers. I would NOT recommend it for loud high DB digital
movies. It will play low bass for movies but not today's really deep bass
DD or DTS room shacking sound.

I
was second owner only used for a year then it went into climate
controlled storage for three years. Then it has been sitting next to my
JL Audio F113 for the past three years collecting dust. I had it looked
over and tested at BEL (Brandywine Electronics in DE) a very
exceptional and professional HiFi repair show. It came out with clean
bill of health. (Copy of repair invoice will be sent with subwoofer) It
works just fine.

The
sub was made I believe in2004don’t know how much previous owner used it
but it only saw maybe a years’ worth of action for me. The cabinet is
not damage however the finish has some marks you can see in photos and I
can send better photos if requested for serious buyer.

FROM AUDIO AUDITION web review

“Conclusion- Brian Bloom”

“As
you can tell from the review, I was very impressed with the Rel Storm
III. Not only did it extend the response in the low end, it even helped
to improve the sound in the upper ranges. The explanation of the
subwoofer set up is very well done, and by following the text you are
almost guaranteed to get the maximum performance. The sub is relatively
compact and very attractive. If you were a little concerned about the
comments made towards the end of the review, then I would point you to one of the larger Rel sub-woofers (not tested), or possibly suggest
utilizing a second sub-woofer. Not everyone can appreciate the kind of
bass the Rel can produce. At one point I was testing the Rel in the A.M.
and while switching discs I heard the phone. It was my upstairs neighbor,
Leslie, calling to find out what the heck I was doing! When I told her
that I was reviewing a subwoofer she promptly said, "Tell them it works!"
I always enjoy demonstrating my system for friends. You know the demo is
successful when you see a big grin on the face of those who hear it for
the first time. And when I'm the one who is grinning, then it makes this
hobby all worthwhile. The Rel Storm III is highly recommended.”
