About me:
Thomas Garson
Lithia Sound & Aural Technology, Ashland, Or

I've been in the business of using, repairing, engineering, building, selling and renting audio equipment and systems, as a profession, since 1970, early in my college days at Penn State. These days I'm semi-retired and specializing in restoring and, if appropriate, re-homing classic audio equipment.

On with the show:
The system I'm offering here is mostly from the estate of one long time clients father. The client is very happy with his classic 1960s McIntosh system, so is allowing me to offer for sale the inherited equipment.

"Dad" purchased, all new, the dCS SACD system along with the Halcro amps and preamp in late 2004 or early 2005. During the handling of the estate, the original invoices were lost but the manuals and literature were located and kept with the equipment, as can be seen in one of the photos. We know the approximate purchase date because the Halcro performance verification charts are hand written by a Halcro tech and dated 2004. The original speakers, Wilson Watt-Puppies, have already been sold. Sadly "Dad" only got to enjoy his hi-fi for a few years before passing away. (Moral: Don't wait too long to enjoy your music the way it was meant to be.)

For this system offering, I have paired the electronics with a set of Infinity Reference Standard (RS) II speaker systems which I acquired in less than ideal condition. They have since been restored to, I think, at least B+ appearance and A+ sonics. (Among the many hats I wear is one that says "Infinity and JBL Professional factory (trained &) authorized service technician".)

I have given each individual piece thorough inspection and testing. The system was given extensive (Really spending more time than I should have, but it sounded sooo good!) listening evaluation, from SACD (Miles Davis!) to upsampled+interpolated (wow, what a difference) 16/44.1 CD (Dianna Krall, Ooo Ooo!) A lot of the equipment I work with is good, but not great. When I first fired this system up, I was worried I did something wrong because I heard nothing. The first CD I inserted, a Glenn Miller Band release, was counting the track lead in but I heard no sound. When the horns broke the silence, the transition (Yeah, I had the gain up just a wee bit too high, so it was at legitimate Big Band volume) was seriously startling! Subsequently, to test the SACD function, I played some mellower Jazz. I've never heard the spit noise and mic pre distortion in the Miles Davis recording sound so real. For a few seconds, I thought I had blown the Emit tweeters in the Infinities. Nope.

Buy certain combinations of components, or the system (with or without the Infinities. They have not been sold but a good home is available) and get a set of (shown) good pro quality interconnects. Buy the speakers and the poplar wood plank can be thrown in, too (It will fit in the box that would hold part of one speaker.).

Take a look at the the pics.
I'm not a pro photographer and I took those shots in my speaker lab with my Moto-Android cell phone camera, not with a Hasselblad in a photo studio (as if you couldn't tell).
The only editing was some perspective adjustments made to straighten things up a bit so the components look relatively normal. No other digital touchups.
The gear really looks sharp in person.
To purchase any listed option other than the entire system, contact me through Audiogon for process details.

Audiogon listing terms will state local shipping only. I will ship, but specific shipping details and costs have to be determined subsequent to purchase. See below.

This stuff is HEAVY! If shipping is required, each electronics piece will be triple layer bubble wrapped and boxed. That package is then snugly packed (armored, really) in a second box lined with 1-1/2" hard foam. For that I charge $65.00 per unit. The speakers must be disassembled to ship. Packing into a total of four similar, but bigger and stouter, boxes is required for the speakers, at $85.00 per box. Buyer pays ALL shipping and insurance charges, including pick up fee. Depending on total weight and destination, it might actually be worthwhile to palatize it all. That can be determined.

If the buyer lives within a several hundred mile radius of Ashland, the best thing might be to drive a van here. The system can be set up and verified (listened to), then self packed, loaded and hauled to its new home.  I'll provide bubble wrap and packing tape!

PS
This could also be a great excuse to come to Ashland, enjoy the Shakespeare Festival, Lithia Park, eclectic restaurants, a plethora of mountain lakes and streams (Crater Lake is a day trip) and, if it's your bag: Great hiking or biking in the mountains.
