This is the fabled CROWN open reel recorder in its best version: CX. It's 1/2 track and has 3 speeds: 3 3/4, 7 1/2 and 15 ips.
This machine has been fully restored by the Crown guru himself, Chuck Ziska. It has everything new: belt, lamps, caps, heads, roller, etc. A full restoration service were performed. The looks for a 40+ years old deck is superb. Just see the photos. The sound of Crown is unique as many people says that recordings made on this machine tends to sound even better than the source!
Added to the machine is the original JELN cabinet for the CX machine. It's not in perfect condition because it suffered an slight shipping damage years ago, but as you can see, it's easy to restore and make it looks like new if you want so. It also includes the very rare and hard to find tape counter! . Here, both are included with the machine. But that's not all: it also come with the rare snap-on spring NAB adapters, plus the screw on set too! Try to find these and you'll immediately realized how hard and expensive to get are those. INCLUDED. These 3 extras will easily cost over $700.00 in the used market. Also, a copy of the owners manual is included.
The actual shipping material and double box that was used by Chuck Ziska, which cost me $100.00, is also included and imperative to assure the safe arrival of your deck.
This machine is under actual use and it's not an out of the closet relic. The worst enemy of this machine is inactivity. This one is working every week. At least it plays a 2,500' reel every Saturday to keep it in shape. Before the Otari arrived, this machine was in my basement studio, inside a STUDER cart. There's a photo of that included, but the cart is not.
I have been dealing with tape machines all my life, so I know a thing or two about it and this Crown is one of the best, cleanest and beautiful CX 822 that you might find anytime, anywhere and it comes with Chuck's blessings.
You might try to make me an offer but let me aware you that I'm not selling it because of financial reasons. I have too many machines here and I need to move those I use the least. The price is more than fair and if you go under, I might not include the extras. It's your choice.
Shipping: I don't have to tell you that this beast is large and heavy as hell. Shipping price would easily be $300.00 and I'm willing to give you $100.00 to help you with it. The cabinet and counter must be ship separately, thus the high cost. Also, this thing weights almost 80 lbs!
Final Note: before asking any question, please read the whole AD carefully to avoid asking questions already answered in the AD text, and please: don't make me loose time with low ball offers. I know what I have and what it's worth. Just sold an SX-822 last week and the customer couldn't be happier.
