Pilot 264 vintage 7591 based stereo power amplifier, rated at 30 wpc , recapped, with upgraded PS, standby switch, Cardas RCAs, includes original cage.

The Model 264 was one of the later power amps produced by Pilot. The 264 was designed to be a stand-alone unit, rather than a console amplifier like the more common SA-232 and SA-260. The SA-232 and SA-260 are tube-rectified, the 264 is solid-state rectified.

Tube complement includes four 12AX7 tubes and four 7591 power tubes. Power tubes are Westinghouse 7591, labeled Scott, all with same date codes of 35 30 74 CM, all test strong. The power tubes are biased in pairs, no need for a matched quad.

This unit has been recapped, with a rebuilt power supply adding extra capacitance and Hexfred diodes.

The RCA jacks have been replaced with a Cardas rhodium plated set.

A standby switch has been installed to permit slow warm-up of the power tubes, greatly extending their life. All upgrades were completed by Robert Silk, my local tube seller and tube amp wizard.

Bias, DC balance and AC balance are all set to factory specifications.

I have rated the amp as a 6 due to the very average cosmetics, but the unit's function is perfect. Because the amp does not have museum quality cosmetics, it provided the opportunity for improvement by adding the front panel standby switches, RCA jacks, and upgraded power supply. The unit is not original, but functions better than when new.

No hum either mechanical or through the speakers and the amp puts out full rated power to both channels. Glorious sound with both active and passive preamps.

A full price offer will include all the Pilot literature pictured in the ad, including the original owner’s manual, warranty sheet, an original certification sheet, product brochure, and original Sams Photofact.

Amp will be double boxed for shipment, and unit will be insured for the full purchase price. Tube cage and all tubes will ship in a second box. Both packages will be sent via FedEx Ground and will be specified as signature required.

Any questions will be quickly and thoughtfully answered, and additional photos can be emailed if needed.

Listed price is $950.00, and includes all Paypal fees. Ground shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.
