Thorens TD124 Upper Platter Mat adapter hub by Woodsong Audio

This is the new Woodsong Audio Upper platter mat adapter for the Thorens TD124.

This piece allows the use of almost any mat on the Thorens TD124 upper platter, directly replacing the stock upper platter hub / mat hold down / 7" adapter. When installed, the top of this hub sits flush with the top of your upper platter.

Full functionality of the TD124 clutch is retained with a bearing bronze bushing in the center, like the original.

Installation takes only a few minutes, using the original fastener plate on the underside of the upper platter.

While the original TD124 mat does work, personally, we do not care for it. There are better sounding mats.

This also allows the use of the Tenuto gun metal mat, which we have come to really like for the Garrard 301 / 401.

Besides the fact that the Tenuto mat enhances upper end extension, and gives more definition to bass, lowering the noise floor, an additional advantage of the Tenuto gun metal mat is that many of the original TD124 upper platters are bent or warped, and the Tenuto mat is heavy enough to flatten minor warps in the upper platter, and stiff enough so that your record sits on a flat surface. We cannot sell the Tenuto mat through audiogon, but we do sell them!

Also, Thorens makes a cork mat with a recess for the record label. This adapter enables the use of the Thorens mat.

When using with the original iron platter, a thicker mat, or combination of mats can reduce the effect of the magnetic pull of magnets in Moving coil cartridges.

For the TD124 MK2, with the lightweight platter, the use of a Tenuto mat will give additional rotational mass.

This adapter is CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, and is clear anodized. The bushing is a leaded bearing bronze.

3 x M3 socket head cap screws and the proper hex key are included. These screws match the original thread pitch of the original part.
