..........For 5 years, I have been rebuilding Carver C-9 Sonic Hologram Units. This latest offering is my best work to date. In short, I have left nothing out here. Every single capacitor (30 plus) in this unit has been upgraded to Wima or Panasonic FM series with only a couple of exceptions. Every resistor (28 plus) in the signal path and even elsewhere have been replaced with KOA SPeer 1% metal film resistors. Rca jacks have been upgraded to Manley quality jacks. A removable C7 AC cord has replaced the old cord. Even the power transformer has been upgraded to a more suitable sized transformer. And the list goes even further.................................   The Carver unit is the only unit that I have tested that actually creates a believable 3D image for the listener. Mr. Carver designed these units back in the early 1980's, and they outsold  every other single piece of Carver gear, period! Simple reason is that they worked. You may recall however, that in the mid 1980's home theater became the craze with multiple channels, and this unit was not so much in style. Didn't change the fact that it was ingenious, as many out there kept the units and still use them to this day. I am one of those individuals. I have never kept any single piece of equipment as long as this one.     ......................Thing is, any equipment that is over 20-30 years old is likely to have some electrolytic capacitors that are in need of replacement. That is just a fact. No big deal, I went in and did just that many years ago with my unit. Then I started upgrading more inside. The unit is easy for a tech to work on, so why not? The result is that the unit performs to a tighter tolerance than when new. You guessed it, the performance makes that evidenced as well.
