The MB-2.5 is the smaller of the four floorstanding speakers in the line. It is a killer $3500.00 pair of slim floorstanding speakers.

They are great for small and mid sized rooms. They use the
Scansonic ribbon tweeter and two 4.5” carbon-coned drivers in a 2.5 way
design with the second woofer assisting in the power demanding bass
region. They offer exceptional soundstaging coupled with great detail
and wonderful imaging. They compete way above their modest price range.

The 2.5’s cabinet is heavily braced and curved, with carbon
reinforcements. The rounded edges of the cabinet reduces diffraction and
minimize the sonic imprint on the tonal balance.

The speaker is crossed over at 3.5 kHz, and the second woofer
assists up to 200 Hz.The 4.5" Carbon coned bass/midrange driver uses an
overhung magnet system.These are crossed over at 3.5KHz to the sealed
ribbon tweeter. Resolution is superb and imaging and soundstaging are
outstanding. They work great full range and exceptionally well with a
quality REL, Gallo or Sumiko subwoofer
in larger rooms to provide true full range high performance sonics.

Scansonic
is owned by Dantax, the parent company of Raidho. Raidho makes world

class speakers at world class prices. Scansonic is designed by the same
design team headed up by Michael Borrensen, of Raidho fame.They therefore
have much of the Raidho DNA and magic that Raidho is known for.
They sell for a fraction of the cost and offer superb performance for
their prices. No they are not as good as Raidho but we feel a steal for their cost.

Having worked with Raidho speakers for more
than 12 years, I found myself faced with a completely new challenge when
I was asked to design a new range of high-performance speakers for the
Scansonic brand.


From the start, I was very focused on building on all the experiences
and strengths obtained from designing the Raidho speakers. At the same
time, I also had to be aware of the long heritage and the Nordic design
tradition of the Scansonic brand. This time, the task also came with a
budget and a desire to create the very best possible within financial
limits.


It was clear to me from the very beginning, that some core techniques
from the Raidho speakers would be of importance: The speakers had to be
designed around a ribbon tweeter that works with at super lightweight
diaphragm that is sealed around the edges to allow for a seamless
transition to the midrange region.

Furthermore, they needed to be designed and developed with a speaker driver with a ridged, pistonic-type membrane.

WEIGHT LOSS FOR RESOLUTION TRANSIENTS AND SUPERB LEADING EDGES

The MB ribbon tweeter has a membrane with an extremely low mass. It is
formed by a Kapton-aluminum sandwich that is only 20 um thick, and the
resulting mass is app. 0.03 g., which is approximately 50 times less
than any conventional textile, ceramic, beryllium or diamond dome. The
lower mass translates directly into higher resolution and less material
coloration.

WEAVED CARBON CONES FOR STIFFNESS AND LOW COMPRESSION

For the MB-series, we have developed a ridged, dust cap free, carbon
membrane. By carefully optimizing the shape and stiffness, we have
succeeded in making a very quiet woofer that blends beautifully with the
ribbon tweeter. The woofer has an overhung magnet system, with long
linear stroke and excellent bass performance.

Alan Sircom, HiFi Plus April 2015, concluded:

They have enough of the Raidho genetic code to sound like Raidho, but

not enough to stop a prospective Raidho owner from changing their
