This is the model that garnered a Class A rating from Stereophile, and made absolute Sound's list of the most important audio products of all time.  I am the original owner, and I have gotten 18 trouble free years of beautiful music from this preamplifier, which has been paired with both audio research and vtl amplifiers.  It has the rare 23 karat gold faceplate which is gorgeous to behold, and which is simply no longer available at any price.  The photographs cannot do the premium high gloss finish justice. This unit is very well cared for, but it is 18 years old so, while it is not reasonable to expect it to look like it just came from the factory, it is in better than excellent condition for its age and will look fabulous in any system.  Even the separate power supply is in very good condition.  It comes loaded with AI recommended Russian military 6h23-eb tubes with plenty of life left in them (currently, these  are selling for $100 per tube at Upscale audio).  Although I have experimented with NOS tubes, these Russian military tubes are the best, most reliable choice for this preamp.  Everything you've read about it is true, you will not find anything this close to the state of the art at anywhere near the price.  If you've read this far, you know what I'm talking about.  This is your opportunity to get a wonderful, full function preamp at an entry level price.  Selling only due to the 'downsizing' of my system to a solid state integrated.  This is a full function preamp with an all tube mm phono stage, tape loop, rumble filter and mono switch.  It is the real deal, for any tube enthusiast.  The current M3B list price approches $5k and , in my opinion, sounds less 'fleshed out' and not anywhere near as good as this M3A.

Asking price includes paypal and CONUS ground shipping insured for
purchase price.  Will be safely packaged in original Audible Illusions shipping carton with all inserts, owners manual and oem a/c cord.

Questions for the seller
do you have a transformer step available? One more question are the dual volume controls mechanically linked together? thanks
I have a transformer, but it’s not for sale. The volume controls are not linked. This is a true dual mono preamp. The stepped attenuators use individual resistors, no potentiometers. Thanks again for your interest.
I am very interested but need balanced in's and outs. I may have to buy some adaptors. im using Tara labs the ones which I spent a small fortune on. ive been wanting a 3a for 20 plus years but im a passive amp guy. I want a tube now that mine is having problems. nice piece.
It’s a great preamp and you won’t find s nicer one than this, but unfortunately it is strictly single ended and I do not have adapters. I do believe cardas makes some nice ones. Thank you for your interest.
does it support MC phono?
It is an mm phono stage. I always used it with a step up transformer for my low output mc cartridges (which is always my preference, even with my current set up, which has an mc stage).
I should add in response to the last question that the “gold” mc stage is retrofittable and, I believe, still available from Audible Illusions, HOWEVER, I don’t recommend it because it is essentially a transistor step up added to the circuit, and I prefer the ‘purity’ of a step up transformer with a tube phono stage. But that is a matter of personal taste.
Just trying to give a more complete answer to the previous question. Couldn’t figure out how to edit the answer once I published it. Thank you for your interest.
