Apex Audio Denver is excited to offer this stunning white pair of Grande Utopia EM that we sold and delivered new a few years back. This pair was fresh from Focal and out of the "V2" split in the production run. Earlier pairs of Grande Utopia EM do not sound at all like later pairs and while Focal will not admit it, there were crossover changes to make significant across the board improvements. This pair was installed by us fresh out of the crates and into an individually climate controlled and locked audio room so no kids, no pets, no cleaning ladies, just one OCD owner and an occasion guest. This pair is perfect in every way with the exception of 4 small blemishes on the left lower side panel of one speaker. It is minor but there and is the only thing I could find separating them from new. They are in the original crates and ready to ship with all packing, 2 pairs of cloth covers, grills, spikes, wrenches, manuals, power cards, and anything else that should be there.
The sound? These are the best speaker I have encountered at any price and I have heard all of the usual suspects. Like all Focals, they are very room and amp friendly, despite their size. So tube ands and smaller rooms are not a problem for the GU EM.

| I own this speakers and they are the perhaps the best ever and I have heard many top contenders.
Both I and other owners have asked Focal if there are several versions of this speakers and they repeatedly denied it,
What is your source of this 2 version story?
As a long time Focal dealer and Focal owner, I have owned both an early GUEM pair and a later GUEM pair in the same room/system. There was a considerable sonic difference. I have also delivered early and later pairs to customers and observed the same differences. It is significant enough that there is no missing that the the speaker changed performance levels mid-run. It is most evidenced by the fact that a Stella can challenge earlier GUEM while a later GUEM easily outperforms the Stella in the mids/highs.
No one associated with Focal has ever admitted to this. However, while in France late 2012, I confronted Jacques Muhal over lunch. I put him on the spot with examples that could not be explained any other way. I then asked him point blank if there were crossover changes and all he would do is smile at me and change the subject. We had been friendly for many years and a simple "no" would have sufficed so I think ho chose not to lie and moved on.
While this is my interpretation, the evidence is damning with most dealers around the globe with extensive GUEM experience reporting the same sonic differences happening at right about the same period in the production run. That period is post release of the Stella which lagged the GUEM about 18 months.

Regarding the two versions story it’s your words against Focal. Yes, it is obvious that Focal will never confirm this. But it also the opinions of many owners and dealers who have reported HEARING the observation between roughly the same production break of speakers. So wither we are all imagining the same thing at the same time or something did happen. If it didn't, many very prominent dealers worldwide are wrong. :-) |
