Jim Rogers JR 149 Speakers Same Driver As LS3/5A, with improved sonics

For sale is a pair of Jim Rogers Model JR 149 Speakers in very good condition, considering its age.

I'm the 2nd owner. I purchased them here on Audiogon from its original owner last year. This is the original version with 8 -16 ohm impedance. They come with attached speaker cable, about 14 ft in length. No need to spend more.

The JR 149 is very easy to drive and I power them with a Linn Classik with great results. All driver units are in great condition, visually and in sound. The speaker sounds very smooth, in BBC tradition, just like a pair of good old 3/5A, but at a fraction of its current cost.

Jim Rogers worked as an engineer for the BBC. In 1977 he established the company named after him, JR Loudspeakers Ltd to manufacture a design he based upon the BBC LS3/5A, the JR149, using the same drive units but housed in a heavy gauge aluminium cylinder with wooden end caps. There is a bolt through from top to bottom to brace the enclosure and make the wooden ends slightly concave, thus eliminating flat panels. The enclosure was lined mechanically and acoustically to reduce sound radiation from the cabinet.

The black speaker cover foam has long been disintegrated. IMHO, they look better without it. But if you like, the aftermarket versions are always available on ebay for purchase.
