Primare SPA-21

The Primare SPA-21 is an impeccably built multi-channel integrated amplifier with exceptional sound.  It’s big and powerful, and will drive difficult speaker loads with ease.  The SPA-21 is designed as three totally separate units mounted in one chassis: a pure analogue stereo preamplifier, a high quality 7.1 channel Dolby Digital and dts processor,  including 192 kHz/24 bit processing, and a high quality 5 x 100 watt per channel power amplifier.  All sections have their own discrete power supplies.  The sound is dynamic, exact and pure, with a neutral midrange, clear, bell-like highs and thunderous bass.


The beauty of the SPA-21 is its “Bypass” mode.  If you own a high-quality universal player, e.g. Oppo 105, 205, Cambridge Audio CXU, CXUHD etc., connecting these sources to the SPA-21 via the analog inputs (whether stereo or multi-channel) and selecting “bypass” sidesteps all DSP by feeding the signal directly to the output, with no decoding, for the most faithful and clean reproduction of stereo or multi-channel recordings. 


The SPA-21 does not have HDMI, nor does it need it.  It has always been my experience that connecting video sources directly to the television produces the best picture.  In my setup, I connected a 4K Roku and Spectrum cable box direct to an LG 4K television.  I then connected an Oppo 105 to the SPA-21 via its analog inputs, and connected the Oppo to the LG 4K television via HDMI ARC.  This setup allows the LG to handle all 4K video processing and the Oppo to handle all audio processing as well as all PC media streaming.  This simple setup was the SPA-21 at its potent best.


I recently had this unit overhauled by Audio Elite Technician.  Audio Elite is the only Factory Authorized United States Service Center for Primare.  Attached is a copy of the invoice (personal and proprietary information appropriately redacted) describing the work.
