This mini-computer (Intel NUC platform) started out life as a regular, off-the-shelf Windows 10 (64 bit) computer. I have put a lot of work into getting it to be a dead-quiet, audiophile-tuned and customized audio streamer. It will include Dirac Live Room Correction Software ($460 purchased new) and the required Calibration Microphone. The Dirac Live software is completely automated- it's very simple to tune your audio system to your room with on-screen instructions at each step. It easily goes head to head and beats some of the best dedicated streamers like the Auralic Aries, Aurender and Bluesound Node.
Hardware
-Intel i3 1.8ghz
-4gb RAM
-60gb SSD Drive (for silent operation)
-Upgraded HD-PLEX power supply (eliminates digital noise)
-Dayton UMM-6 room calibration microphone (with factory calibration file) ($75+ new)
-Extra long 25 foot USB cable for calibration mic
Software
The key to the amazing sound of this system for me was the Dirac Live software which cost me $460. It corrects the room through the range with complete transparency. I'm an amateur audio engineer and extremely sensitive to phase incoherence (the common issue with room correction). The calibration microphone is included! License will be transferred to your email address as well.
Also included is the audiophile playback software, JRiver Media Center (v. 20). It's a legit license that I'll transfer to your email ($80 license). You can upgrade to version 24 for $30 if you like, but I didn't think it was necessary for me.
It will also come with the free version of the Fidelizer software which you run each time you turn on or reboot the computer (this optimizes the computer for audio streaming to reduce noise and artifacts).
Power Supply
The problem with using PCs as audio streamers is that you'll often get digital noise that ruins the entire listening experience. I upgraded the power supply here with an HD Plex power supply which eliminated the noise in my system. I put it in a black square project enclosure for a neat look with the PC but it's 2 separate pieces (as pictured).
