Cary 98 SLP with F1 Upgrade-2 box preamp, including MM phono with outboard power supply. I sent the unit to Cary for the Formular 1 upgrade.
This is the older black with chrome exterior version, rare and difficult to find today, reminds me of vintage McIntosh tube gear. Condition is excellent, front panel is near mint, and chrome reads well but has a few swirls, normal for this surface. The power supply has a scratch on top as shown in photo.
Limited use in a second system, the unit takes on the signature of the tubes. Adding NOS 6SN7 Raytheon, Tung sol or Sylvania tubes, adds multiple layers to the performance taking it to a level of much more expensive equipment. The Phono is a sleeper-very organic and intimate with Jazz and voice. At this price point, it is a real sleeper and difficult to beat.
Comes with remote, connecting cable, owner's manual, stock tubes and factory box.

I always liked the older McIntosh gear and wanted this to compliment a Mac Tuner. SLP preamp configured with mm phono includes remote. Purchased 4 years ago for a 2nd system, but received very limited use. I sent it to Cary to add the Formular l upgrade a few years later. The main unit in excellent condition looks closer to a 9, but the power supply has a few marks on it. Supplied with stock tubes, but NOS tubes enhance performance. Additional pictures will follow.
