New Lower Price! Up for sale is an extremely rare and very beautiful Luxman E-1 dual mono class A phono stage. This was Luxman’s reference piece until two years ago when they released the EQ-500 (for $7,000) and it is awesome - totally blows away the E-250 which is a very scaled down version of the E-1 (not dual mono etc...).

The E-1 is suitable for both MM and MC carts (with outputs above 0.2mV) and it has easily adjusted impedance and gain from the front panel. Additionally, there are two inputs, you one can have two tonearms connected to the unit - this allows you to use two turntables or a table with two tonearms with the same phono stage. There is also a cartridge demagnetizer which helpfully mutes the output stage when used. There is nothing at this price point which can even come close to this level of build quality or performance - this is a reference product with discrete components and dual mono design. Additionally, this is a true US market unit - not a 100V unit like most of the other E-1s out there.

From Distributor:

Since 1925, Luxman are not about mass-produced products designed in Japan, then assembled in China from generic parts. Rather Luxman products are designed in Japan, then each part is carefully tested and evaluated. Many parts are custom-made for them which really does make these designs special. The transformers are made in Japan to their specification. Luxman selects the color paint used on the resistors (to identify value & tolerance) based on extensive listening tests. The chassis is carefully tuned, both vibration and resonance are carefully controlled; they perform like a musical instrument. Finally assembly & testing is all carried out in Japan. The Japanese attention to detail is fantastic—the amplifiers come wrapped in a cloth shroud with elastic underneath and all of the RCA and XLR sockets are protected from oxidation with individual plastic sleeves. Even the power cord is a cut above the normal give-away and actually sounds good. No wonder Luxman achieves such a superior sound.

Fit and finish is exquisite; Luxman’s craftsmen take great pride in both the aesthetic and sonic presentation.

Two Inputs
Luxman’s highest quality phono stage allows the music lover to choose between two independent tonearm / cartridge inputs from the front panel. Adjustable input impedance.

Articulator (Demagnetizer)
Over time, the various parts of the inner assembly of moving coil cartridges experience a build-up of magnetic energy, resulting in a veiling of detail, even a loss of dynamics and upper-octave resolution. Demagnetizing the cartridge removes the excess, often bring back a cartridge’s sense of “presence” and “life”.

We routinely demagnetize our moving coil cartridges every six or seven months as general maintenance. We don’t recommend this device for use with moving magnet cartridges, however.

Engage the “Articulator” switch, wait a few moments, and it’s done!

Line Phase Sensor
Here is a clever device found on the back of every Luxman powered product. You press the button and it will check the phase of the electricity it is receiving. If the AC outlet in the wall is incorrectly wired, meaning the live and neutral are swapped, a red LED will turn on to warn you. You only need to press it once, when you are installing a product to check that everything is in order. It’s a simple mistake that occurs often and can seriously undermine your listening enjoyment.

Luxman’s Transformers are hand crafted in Japan for the North American Voltage.
