These monaural amplifiers were remanufactured and updated to the latest electrical and protection circuit specifications by David Berning. Additionally, a new chassis component is incorporated. SMc Audio's (Steve McCormack) developed the "Gravity Base" a twenty-pound copper multi-layer damping and mechanical ground system expressly for the Berning / Hi Fi One amplifier. It forms the base of the amplifier, adding stiffness, rigidity, and a termination path for vibrational energy. Stillpoints OEM Ultra bases are installed and will accept any 1/4-20 pitch 'foot'.
With this electrical and mechanical combination, the amplifier is transformed, providing the proprietary circuitry an idealized environment to reproduce sound with the least degradation.
The "Gravity Base" can be purchased separately from Hi-Fi One for all iterations of the Quadrature Z amplifier. This amplifier is the final iteration of the Quadrature Z and comprehensively improved top to bottom with greatly improved bass weight and authority.
220 watt per channel OTL incorporating the latest circuitry trickled down from the flagship 60 watts per channel class A 845 ZOTL.
The QZ amplifiers will drive very difficult loads like the MBL 101's, Apogee Divas, and all Maggie loudspeakers based on their patented ZOTL impedance matching circuitry.
There are very few vacuum tube amplifiers that can make this claim. Load tolerance is one singularly unique Berning OTL attribute. Transient speed, bass impact, transparency, and lack of coloration are exemplary and well chronicled in many reviews all over the world.
In short, this is not a conventional OTL amplifier in design and execution. lt does not require a large number of tubes run highly biased in parallel (greatly shortening tube life) to get the impedance down enough to directly drive the loudspeaker. This typically limits conventional OTL designs to 6C33 and 6AS7 tubes. Typically TWENTY 6AS7 output tubes to get 220 wpc. In the Berning design, FOUR 33JV6 tubes generate 220 wpc with 20,000 hour tube life.
Moreover, a significant number of QZ amplifiers have been running with the original tubes for over 15 years. That is only possible running the tubes as they were intended by their mfg's to be utilized. Not like the typical hot-running, short tube life, conventional OTL.
The QZ is an innovative, patented, and technologically advanced tube amplifier utilizing a high-speed Berning designed and built switch mode power supply and full power factor correction.
These amplifiers have built-in AC filtration, weight 58 pounds each, self-bias and run anywhere in the world without adjustment. Plug-n-play. There are no user-replaceable fuses, the amplifier's protection circuitry is that effective. No more chasing expensive audiophile fuses.
They stand alone where high power OTL amplification is concerned today just as they did when introduced in 2005 in its first iteration. "Technology in the service of music" is more than a sales slogan with the David Berning company and Hi-Fi One.
The amplifier ships in custom made military specification wooden crates with polymer deformable feet matched to the total weight to absorb vertical impacts. The inner amplifier cardboard box utilizes fitted dense foam cushioning.
Wire transfer or direct in-branch Wells Fargo business account deposit is preferred. Other payment options are available.
Stillpoints Ultra bases are attached to the Gravity Bases on the amp and are ready for the "foot" of your choice with a 1/4" x 20 thread pitch.
