B&K Components Reference 4420 stereo power amplifier is an audiophile favorite with robust, clean power. It is rated at 225 watts per channel into 8 Ohms and 350 watts per channel into 4 Ohms. And can deliver 75 amps of current peak to peak. It features toroidal transformers, discrete circuitry, Class AB Mosfet output stage with a Class A predriver. It has both RCA and balanced XLR inputs.

This is a great sounding amp with lots of power. Strong bass with a midrange that is clear and detailed and never grainy, and a natural sounding top end. This amp is not bright and fatiguing like so many other power amps are. This is a great amp for speakers that need a little bit of extra juice to get them going.

This power amp has been refurbished by Stargate Electronics, the New York shop that bought the parts of B&K Components when it closed its business. It has received new Japanese caps for the output of both channels, has been re-biased and had the power supply refurbished.

A reader kindly commented that it appears that Stargate Electronics did not replace the four main power supply caps. He writes "Changing the main power supply caps in an older amp even though the old ones test good will improve the sound a lot. I picked up a 4420 cheap a couple of years back and just replaced the four main power supply caps and it made a big difference. I got a set of four for $130 shipped to my door off of eBay. They are very easy to install, no soldering required. These caps have screw terminals on the top for the posts. Just re land the wires on the proper posts and you are good to go."

Stargate informed me that the refurbished amp sounds great and does not need new power supply caps. However, new caps here looks to me like it may be a great suggestion for a new owner. I will contribute to the cost for these caps by accepting an offer of $635 including shipping within USA. But that's as low as I can go.

Check out the photos for appearance. It shows very minor wear.

The amp should sound as good as new for many years of happy listening.

The cost to refurbish the amp was $377.38 plus $100.00 shipping. I would like to receive $635.00. Considering its excellent condition and a new price some 20 years ago of $1,200, I submit this is a marvelous sonic bargain.

Shipping cost is included in the price for shipping within continental USA. Extra shipping costs to ship outside continental USA to be paid by buyer.

Questions for the seller
Were main power supply caps replaced?
I asked the shop electrician your exact question and he told me that the correct answer is that he replaced the non-polarized capacitors in both channels for both output and input with Japanese capacitors which he ordered and installed just for this job because he said they are the best-sounding for this amp. He also did some other repairs and tells me the amp sounds great. I hope this helps.
