Thorens TD-124 serial number 40022

The best of everything with original finish in excellent condition.
This TD-124 was in excellent cosmetic condition before sending it off the Shopper for $4,500 worth of upgrades and rebuilding. The upgraded main platter, top platter and main bearing installed by Shopper bring this deck to the highest possible quality and performance. It is way ahead of a stock TD-124 in detail, tightness of bass, sound floor, and musical drive. If you are interested in a fully updated TD-124 but don’t want to wait 8 months for Shopper to rebuild it, here’s your chance at a good price.
Below are more details of the upgrades and history of this deck. There is also a cost breakdown of what it would be to replicate it. You can also look on Shopper's web site to see what's been done to improve on the stock TD-124.

Deck is fitted with a fully rebuilt and cardas wired SME 3009 MkII and a Shure M97XE. The Shure is a great way to start out on a TD-124; Shopper recommends it.

The set up sounds really good and the cartridge isn't broken in yet. I'm listening to it as I write this. It has the drive and natural sound that make these decks desirable and much more alive than the heavy platter belt drive approach.

I will break up the cartridge, arm and plinth if you do not want these items. I can use them on a TD-121 I use. I also have available a Shopper 12" armboard with SME cut out that can be used with many arms that have a sliding base (Ortofon, Shick, Audio Creative). Also available is a 12" high mass solid plinth of layered baltic birch ply. So . . . you have options.

I bought this from the original owner who was still using it from new. Before sending it out to Schopper for a rebuild, the table was is excellent cosmetic shape so I left the paint original. Functionally it was good but showed it’s age.

I sent it out to Shopper for the works. It’s a brand new deck with new main bearing and platters. It has about 100 hours of play time on it. Beyond the rebuild service I added the following items:
Complete Schopper motor and chassis restoration $980
Shopper upper platter $590
Shopper non-magnetic main platter $1,480
Shopper main bearing $785
Shopper rubber mat $80
Shopper idler wheel $250
New mushrooms $60
New thumb wheels and treads $150
New motor AC lead $70
Total cost of rebuild and upgrades $4,445

Go onto Shopper's web site and check out what these options are and how they improve the basic TD-124.

Cost of used deck $1,000
Plinth (high mass layered Baltic birch ply in rosewood) $280
Swissonor armboard $180
