Offered is a matched pair of 2000 model Monitor Audio Studio 60 speakers recently acquired at an estate sale, built in Rosewood with a piano gloss finish. These well reviewed speakers are not re-sold very often so here's your chance to own a pair of them at a fair price. These are Monitor Audio's last flagship model produced in England (1998-2003) before they changed focus from hi-fi to home theater and moved product production to China. One cabinet has a small nick on the lower left front edge and two round spots on the rear where the finish is cracked. The other cabinet has one 6.5" driver with a replaced dust cap. The original binding post jumpers are missing, substitutes are included. Given these minor faults I would rate them a 7 - 8. The shipping weight is 61 lbs. ea. and will ship from zip-code 30080 by the carrier of your choice. Selling price will be plus quoted freight cost. Offers & phono preamp trades considered, +/- $.

Description:
The Monitor Audio Studio 60 is the flagship of the line, a no compromise full bandwidth design and engineering tour de force. These speakers deliver an exceptional performance. Two RST bass units and one RST mid-range unit work into separate cavities tuned to differential frequency points, resulting in exceptional power, linearity and grip. The Studio 60 brings lifelike scale, power, dynamics and realism to music and film. The Monitor Audio Puresound crossover technology uses no in-line caps which allows the mid-band section to have a wider frequency window than usual. The drivers are so closely matched, that the midrange capacitor is not needed. The result is stunning mid-range clarity and deeper wider imaging than formerly thought possible.

RST: Rigid Surface Technology (RST), inspired by the Japanese art of Origami, strengthens the speaker cone, letting Monitor Audio speakers use thinner, lighted and more responsive C-CAM cones, meaning greater speed and accuracy, as well as greatly reduced distortion. Gold Dome C-CAM: First introduced in the latter half of 1980s, the Gold Dome Tweeter is built on its maker’s 1985 metal dome tweeter technology. Monitor Audio anodizes its ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium alloy, creating a thinner, lighter more rigid dome, one which is extremely efficient and less prone to audio distortion.

From a previous Audiogon listing in 2012:

Sadly, I have decided to part with my classic Piano Rosewood MA Studio 60s. These were top of the line and only discontinued because they were too expensive to produce. Audiophile maganzine reviews are outstanding. Following are some testimonials: From Audiogon Forum: Rsbeck stated in 2005: “Studio 60's went for around $12,000. (Note: Even the 50's, the model just below the 60's, sold for $9,000). You virtually never see a used pair of Studio 60's for sale. No one seems to want to part with them, including me. I have been watching A'Gon for years and years and have never seen a pair of used Studio 60's for sale. If you ever see a pair of Studio 60's for sale -- grab 'em!” Audioreview comments: Hprbn111 in 2004 said: “The first thing I noticed was the total lack of boxiness (4 years later, I'm still amazed) and the lack of euphony of the cabinet across most of the whole audible range, then I noticed the powerful and very crisp bass, transparency is first rate and so is the amount of detail available, holographic effects. I could go on forever….” RobertA in 2003 said: “They are probably one of the three best looking speakers I have ever seen. They blend well with and actually sound like my ribbons which, although I never thought I would, I have moved to the sides. The MAs actually do have a ribbon like sound that is never harsh. The music just hangs in the air where it's supposed to.” KJM in 2001 said: “Since buying the Studio 60s, other speakers sound terribly muffled.” All reviewers gave the Studio 60s 5 stars.
