This is an Ortofon MC Anna which has been described as "the highest echelon of Moving Oil cartridges." Reviewers have raved that this cartridge: (a) is "a gorgeously natural-sounding moving-coil cartridge offering tremendous subtlety and a rich, vivid tonality"; (b) "In short, it is excellent. If you can afford it, then buy one. If you can't afford it then start saving now!"; (c) "receives my highest and most enthusiastic recommendation...In fact, I think the Anna is the most natural-sounding cartridge the venerable Danish company has made in a century of doing business!"
This particular cartridge comes from my father's system and has less than 70 hours of use. All original boxes, manuals, and accessories are included. The MC Anna box is made of Japanese oak wood with a lid carved out of Japanese maple wood and treated with a Japanese Urushi lacquer that was developed, according to Ortofon, 6,000 years ago.

| Is there any means to verify the hours/condition of this cartridge? Absolutely, for around $125 or so, I can bring the cartridge to a high end audio store here in NYC (Lyric, In-Living Stereo, or Noho Stereo) and they can hook the catridge up to a tone arm and bench test it. For what it is worth, I actually had the cartridge visually inspected and was told that everything looks in perfect condition. |
| 086 serial number is pretty low and indicates 2011 or 2012 manufacturing year. Any background on why your father in law used it so little over the last 7 yrs? Hey Mark, Sorry for the slightly delayed response. I was traveling. In short, my father fell ill shortly after purchase and began using the system less and less. |
