The 1021 can best be described as a world-class CD player that can hang with most anything in production today, a remarkable transport to use with a Boulder (or any other DAC), and a network player through its ethernet connection. Boulder did a great job on the 1021, it is built like a tank and has great ergonomics. The 1021 also features a volume control coupled to a preamp level gain stage that can be activated to PROPERLY direct drive a power amp with little to no compromise. This and any great power amp would make a remarkable system on the cheap.
