For Sale Sennheiser HDVA 600 Headphone Amp / Preamplifier
My asking Price = $800
(I’ll pay the Agon fee, PayPal fee, and FedEx ground shipping cost from me to you)
I’m not a serious headphone audiophile. Even though I build a lot of my own equipment (both OEM and dealer), I don’t like the feeling of most headphones on my head. However, I do own a pair of Sennheiser HD800S headphones and I love them even though I can’t obtain a dealership to sell them. If I could, I would.
I don’t use these headphones to listen to music since my speaker system is really really good. I use them when playing my piano controller keyboard into my iMac using Keyscape and Bechstein software sampled pianos. I also own an Apogee Element 24 interface and I’m finding that this interface sounds good enough for my piano playing use. I’m not using the HDVA 600 headphone amp and I might as well sell it and let someone else enjoy it.
This HDVA600 amp sounds excellent when connected to my audio system. It does not have a DAC inside but rather is both a headphone amp as well as an excellent preamp for an audio system. Inputs are both single ended RCA and balanced XLR. Outputs are also both RCA and XLR.
This amp listed new for $1,599.95. The same unit with an interior DAC is now marketed by Sennheiser for $2,199.95 with street price around $1,800. The DAC inside that unit, however, isn’t that great (it’s good) and you’d be better off using an external DAC.
I have no idea why Sennheiser made such a radical decision to include a DAC. In my opinion, you’re better off with two separate units (headphone amp and DAC). The moment you decide to upgrade the DAC inside the HDVA800 (HDVA600’s replacement), you’re in trouble. This amp is so good, however, that you really don’t need to purchase another. The DAC you choose, however, will probably be a moving target until you find one you really like.
This headphone amp is lightly used and is silver in color. It works beautifully with my Sennheiser HD800S as well as my old HD600 headphones. Because the HD800 series is difficult to drive, this amp would work for most any headphone out there. I’m sure you can do your own Googling to find out.
I’m asking $800 for this amp. You’ll find other used ones still out there for sale at around $950. I’ve even found a new one listed for $2,400 by some unscrupulous dealer. Yes, it might be worth it but not when you can still purchase a used lightly used unit for almost 1/3 the price. At the price I’m asking, this is a very fair purchase. Let me know if you have any questions.
The amp comes in it’s original Sennheiser box with Sennheiser manual and will be double boxed.
