Audio Research SP3A1 vacuum-tube preamplifier This is the preamp that really put Audio Research on the map as a true high-end manufacturer. Classic tube pre-amp with amazing soundstage and lush mid-range. The preamp has the VanAlstine mod which is a toggle which defeats the tone circuitry. When mod is turned off, tone controls are fully functional. Unit really is in excellent condition. Second owner. (Purchased in 1980's) I very recently had it serviced to have the powersupply recapped. All tubes tested *excellent*. Number 2 Main Outputs work normally. #1 do not.
