Modified Magnepan 1.7s

I am looking for a local buyer or someone within 100 miles of DC to hand off  the speakers. I have all the original packaging in perfect shape but I am worried about shipping them. The speakers are in "As New" condition.

I am retiring soon, and I am in the process of
"shrinking" my system.

These are modified Magnepan 1.7 loudspeakers
that bypass the fuse and additional steel signal path of the original Magnepans. Bypassing the fuse has made a tremendous
difference in elevating these speakers to world class status. I can have
them reset to original status (e.g. using the fuse) if you
prefer and can provide step-by-step instructions to go from one state to the
other (e.g. with fuse or without fuse). 

I would suggest to reset to original state if you have a turntable and have in
the past year or two dropped the tonearm onto the record! The fuse is there to
protect from these occurrences or playing too loudly. However, if you have an
all-digital setup with quiet equipment (no turn on thumps or pops) seriously
consider keeping them in the modified state. They have been in the modified
state since I purchased them several years ago. 

I have run them with a NAD M51 -> Odyssey Amps with outstanding results. The
clarity is breathtaking. I now have a NAD M32 direct to the Magnepans and
singers sound incredibly lifelike. Instruments take on 3 dimensions. Very
cool. In all cases, I have not moved these speakers since I purchased them and
set them up in a 24' x 20' room. We are a smoke free house. 

The speakers are in excellent shape with no
tears or marks on the speaker. They are the extra cost version with very light covers with cherry
inserts on the sides. I have the original box which has been kept in perfect
condition.
