Second owner, smoke and pet-free household. This amp was purchased as a DNA-1 Deluxe. It was upgraded with the SMC Gold Special 17 upgrades by Steve McCormack.
The amp was also refinished with a fresh powder coat and the front face of the amp which had previously had a scratch was fixed and freshly badged and powder coated as well. Cosmetically the amp is just about perfect (some evidence of wear on the old, unused speaker taps. New high-quality ones were fitted by SMC to assist with bi-amp speaker wires. Everything inside is in perfect working order and any damaged caps, fuses and other parts were replaced with the SMC upgrades. Original price circa 1995 was $2355. SMC Gold Special upgrade and finishing was over $1600 and performed in 2017.
Sonics are superb on this amp - the McCormack midrange sweetness is still there, but all the technicalities in the bass and treble are tighter and much improved, and competitive with amps costing much more. Used gently and never abused.
The unit is listed at 8/10 because the person I purchased it from did not supply the original box. I have a box that fits the unit and will pack it securely and safely with plenty of extra packing material.

Steve McCormack informed me that the IE transformer is original and that impedance is still 100k ohms.

I’m very seriously interested in your amp and live in MO. Did you have the upgrades done yourself or did you buy it after the upgrades were done? Do you know what transformer is in it? Any pics with the top cover off? My # is [filtered]. Thanks Andy SMC Audio performed all the upgrades. Steve McCormak only signs the amps he has upgraded personally.
The transformer is the original that came in the Deluxe version (torodial). |

| Hi - great amp! I had a quick question regarding the Gold Upgrade. I know some of SMC’s upgraded x-formers lowered the input impedance from 100k ohms to 10k ohms. Do you know if this is the case for this amp? (I am running a tube pre)

MH MH, if the output impedance is 1:5 to 1:10 (1k to 2k) that should be the ideal range. If it’s much higher I would worry, if it’s lower it should be ok. Even as low as 100 ohms it should be fine. |
