This famous Legacy system is fully functional and has only minor cosmetic blemishes to the wood side rails. This is a superb reproducer of chamber orchestra, quartet, quintet, classical orchestra, piano, acoustic instrumentals, jazz ensemble, vocal performances, and many other musical forms. There is such a total lack of spurious resonance and coloration that many listeners are convinced the instruments are actually being played before their eyes. The push-pull open dipole planar design emulates the radiation field of actual instruments, producing excellent imaging and depth that is not found with any but the most exotic and expensive boxed speaker designs.
The first order rolloff below 50Hz is the only compromise in this design due to front-back long-wave cancellation inherent in dipole design and the less-than-gargantuan size of this system. However, excellent cone sub-woofer designs are available to complement these panels, adding lowest-octave impact to the superb aural stage provided by these panels. Such bifurcated design integration is completely acceptable due to the longer rise time and wave length propagation inherent in the lowest audible octaves, given, of course, a well-chosen cone-based sub-woofer design and correctly conceived crossover system.
