A truly revolutionary turntable slip mat that will increase the performance of your record player!
While researching various turntable mat options, we made a few out of metal and found that, by adjusting  the isolation compounds, we were getting increased performance by simply changing the mat!  Bass levels were stronger and more taught.  Midrange was brought a bit more forward, and the highs were a little more noticeable.  More importantly, noise floor and channel separation were much improved!
Because we were on to something, we started experimenting with various materials and finally settled on a Bakelite product, "Garolite".  This is a very interesting substrate!  Multi-directional glass fibers are bonded with Epoxy Resins under high-heat to create an extremely flat and stable material.  Because of the nature of how the fibers are laid, there is very little if any resonance.  Additionally, this particular substance is impervious to humidity, heat, cold, or any electrical transfer (no static electricity!) This rigid disc is a perfectly-flat and inert platform for your records to bed on the platter providing a non-slip surface and one that isolates from all noise and vibrations.  To further isolate the platter from various motor, spindle, and other noises, the mat is isolated from the platter via 0.040" 40 Durometer Sorbothane pads.
The mat is machined from a solid piece of 3.125mm Garolite and also includes a label recess to assure your records sit as flat as possible.  Total height of the mat is 4.125MM and an almost perfect match for many Pioneer  turntables that require a 4.4mm mat.   This is important  as they do not have adjustable VTA.
Options include custom diameter as well as custom spindle diameters.   Standard spindle diameter is 9/32" but some added benefits have been found to over-bore the spindle hole to completely isolate the mat from the spindle and its bearings.
Here is a review of our mat from a user:
"In my system, to my ears, the Garolite mat is a noticeable improvement. Bass response is a significantly noticeable improvement. The "attack" of the kick drum is more noticeable and the bass guitar sounds a bit more natural and real. One thing that struck me also was that the cabinets in the rear of the room started to rattle/buzz where they had not prior. I didn't touch volume controls, and was able to repeat it going back to the rubber mat. Don't know why this is as SPL level did not change.
Midrange in regards to channel separation was the biggest impact. Where the SDA effect was having sounds coming from the corners, now they are coming from the side walls. Subjectively saying they moved about 20 degrees wider on both sides, which is a very striking improvement. Eva Cassidy's voice "might" have sounded a bit better along with the piano too. Like maybe I could hear the striking of the strings from the keys being pressed more easily? Instead of a sound, it was a note if that makes sense?
High end, cymbals were a bit easier to place in the soundstage and sounded a little bit better. Not $500 better maybe, but I "thought" they sounded better.
One thing I didn't plan on evaluating and something that struck me as odd... In between songs, the quiet parts sounded "different". Like, I noticed it and was not initially trying to notice it. Saying it was quieter might be weird but what I thought at the time, kind of like it was a darker hole compared to what I had heard before. Was initially not going to say this, but after thinking about it and not caring what people think, I went ahead and included it after posting. Maybe it was inadvertently my psychosis subconsciously wanting to hear something different?"
