On offer is a pair of Bel Canto REF600M monoblock amplifiers, fitted with Stillpoints Ultra Mini isolation feet.

These are superb amplifiers, built around the celebrated nCore class D modules developed by Bruno Putzeys. For years I used Spectral amplifiers, with great pleasure and enthusiasm. However, my recent downsizing led me to reluctantly set aside my prejudices and superstitions and listen carefully to class D—specifically these amps. They are as superb as the reviewers claim. The specifications are pretty eye-opening (see below), but the sound is a revelation—check out the reviews, as I can’t say it better. These retail for $4990, and I purchased them in February of this year.

The amps are fitted with Stillpoints Ultra Mini isolation feet, resulting in improved imaging and instrumental air. (The original feet are included in the offer.) I paid $1080 for these in May.

The only reason I am selling these is I took an opportunity to upgrade to Mola Mola Kaluga monoblocks—essentially the same nCore class D electronics, but packaged in more elegant casework from Putzeys’ own company. Suffice it to say I’m not looking back.

Reviews and Awards

  • The Absolute Sound Product of the Year, 2017
  • Stereophile Class A Component
  • Stereophile, September 2017: “The Bel Canto Design REF600M’s strongest trait was its uncanny ability to make simply recorded music sound hauntingly real. With every loudspeaker I tried, the Bel Cantos offered up weight, body, punch, and crystalline detail better than some of the most expensive amplifiers I know.”
  • The Absolute Sound, February 2017: “To my ears [the REF600M is] good enough to qualify as the best all-around power amplifier I’ve heard to date, regardless of technology or circuit topology.”
