Marantz Model 500

This is a presale-announcement for a late-production Marantz Model 500 Amplifier, serial number 1909. This pristine example will be out of the shop in late January. It is being serviced by Audio Specialties of Portland, Oregon for a minor issue (distortion in the right channel). I am an eBay power seller and anticipate auctioning it at that time with a minimum opening bid of $5500-- unless an interested party makes prior arrangements for a private purchase.

Truly, the Marantz Model 500 is a “Holy Grail” vintage audio piece. This one was recently acquired from the original owner. It’s lived in the same house since brand new, and as the pictures indicate- its outer & inner boxes, all packing materials, stickers, and original service manual have been hibernating in his attic since the Nixon administration-- and are included in the sale. The right channel started acting up years ago, but since the owner had a bad shoulder, and lifting off his shelf to take it to the shop was impractical for him, so it just sat—decommissioned and unused.

The Audiogon Bluebook lists average retail at $5500 and a private-party sale value of $5953.75. Since this is a significantly above-average example that will be freshly, professionally serviced, a sale price well in excess of $6000 is anticipated.

They are rarely offered, and it might be decades before a coveted late-production example this nice and this complete again comes onto the market.
