Ayre Acoustics V-5 Power Amp

It's a shame I can't rate this higher as the front plate looks nice but there are some light scratches and a couple of nicks elsewhere, which I've done my best to capture in the photos.

The excellent Ayre Acoustics V5 solid state amplifier works perfectly and sounds fantastic. I bought this a while back to power my Dunlavy SC-III's but I've switched to tubes and this is just surplus to requirements.

The feet have been removed and replaced with 3 genuine Audio Points for improved isolation and vibration control.

This is my first Ayre piece and it was advertised to me as having the 'classic Ayre house sound', which meant nothing to me before I bought it. Having owned it for a while and after adding a nice Ayre Codex DAC, I would say I have a reasonable handle on what the Ayre 'house sound' is. I found this piece smooth, detailed and very musically engaging. It seems nicely extended at both frequency extremes so its smoother presentation does NOT mean rolled-off at the top. It's detailed and airy and throws an excellent stage in all directions. It has plenty of power and doubles into 4ohms so the power supply is well designed and beefy.
