This rare and sought after stereo-field-spatializer opens up the imaging on all recordings through a patented process that widens the field and enhances micro-details without requiring the listener to stay within a sweet-spot.  The designer was an audiophile at heart and he included a wide range of control allowing subtle to dramatic "Space" to be dialed in by the user allowing it to work it's magic without becoming offensive (unlike other stereo enhancers). The BASE truly has to be heard to be believed. (I own 3, which wasn't easy given how rare they are, and this one is the best sounding out of the bunch.)

The BASE can be employed as an pre-amplifier because it has miles of discrete gain and a very low noise floor. It also has a high-gain headphone output capable of driving 80's era electrostatic headphones via an SRD-6 or 7 energizer (e.g, Stax Lambda's). It can also drive modern high-gauss motors like the Beyerdynamic T1 or Audeze LCD-series. The BASE+headphone experience is a great treat as the stereo field becomes more pleasing and lively without it being an over-used effect.  This unit also allows for unbalanced interconnects, if that's your jam. I recommend the BASE for improving  High-end listening, Home-Theater, Mixing and Mastering.

I operate a fully discrete 5 channel studio (surround mixing) and occasionally do mastering for friends and clients. As note above, over the last 4 years we have collected 3 Bedini BASE, but it turns out that 7 channels of BASE is overkill for surround mixes, so I'm keeping 2 of the units and letting this one go. FWIW, the BASE I'm selling here performs equally well compared to the two I am keeping in the studio (I think a little better, actually). The PSU has been professionally reworked with the transformer moved off board to reduce microphonics (it is now on a shock-mounted standoff). Further, the calibration of the panned center image seems more accurate on this unit than my other 2. I liked the imparted smoothness and glassy-sheen of this one slightly more than my primary units, but I don't need the center channel or headphone out features.

If you weren't familiar, Jon Bedini's designs were the essence of Hi-Fi.  Massive Class-A amplifiers, over-spec'd ridiculously clever A/B designs and then this novel patented Spatializer. The BASE is not even in the same league as other spatializers (from both the fidelity and application standpoints). If you're curious what I've found the BASE outshines, by light-years, try out the Hughes AK-100 (fun, but not even Hi-Fi), the HTMS-2510 (hmm, sorta cool, but again brings significant artifacts while extracting spatial info), and the Carver C-9 (are you kidding me, who would send audio through a rc4136, even way back then, sorry Carver fans, that was a pretty Lo-Fi approach, so I think $90 at a garage sale is now appropriate).

The Bedini BASE can improve the space of an entire mix without unusual speaker placement requirements. Unlike other spatializers that use head-ache inducing comb-filters (thanks SRS), the BASE unveils recording dimensionality, air and sparkle without producing fatigue. For 95% of selections played It is a drastic improvement that is "correct" sounding in that it can be left on with modest settings and improve the imaging of most music (most of the time). As noted above, it does not require a specific speaker configuration to perform it's magic (well, you'll need 2 speakers), but placement isn't fickle like with a carver C-9.

AFAIK, less than 500 were made and the ones that found their way into mastering engineers hands have remained hidden as secret weapons, used by a few top names, but not often talked about. In other words, most commercially released mixes *have not* been processed with Bedini Spatial Enhancement, and thus can be improved, but a small portion of releases have, (so it won't work on those specific records).

Typically the gear that I trade is not about profit but swapping tools into the studio that I find useful. I will take returns on DOA kit. Anything I sell is shipped with insurance and requires a signature. Buyer is responsible for shipping fees on purchases and returns.
