Herron Audio VTSP-3A-R03 - Price Reduced

Seldom seen on the pre-owned market, this is a component for music lovers who have a connoisseur’s taste and a working person’s pocketbook.  Easily competes with preamps at twice the price.

Keith Herron, the designer and manufacturer of these preamps, is, himself, an electrical engineer, a music lover and a musician. Many of his customers are musicians, often referred to him by other musicians.   In addition to being a terrific guy – call him, he’s glad to answer any questions you may have, he’s also something of a perfectionist.

One of his primary goals is to offer the highest audio and musical qualities at value conscious prices. No expense is wasted on exotic casework or on advertising.  According to Keith: “Parts selection is critical, and the types I use depend on where it is in the circuit, and each part's precise effect on the total sound of the unit. Every part in the unit has been evaluated for its sonic contribution. Finding exactly the right part for each location in the circuit is the thing that is absolutely crucial. … The most expensive parts don’t always sound the best.” 

Karl Lozier’s review states “More than ever, Herron's latest electronics seem to let the music just flow out of them in an extremely natural way. The latest version of his tubed preamplifier still seems to more nearly capture the beauty, sense of life, dynamics, natural details, and microdynamics. … I believe it is the only audibly competitive equipment to start in the ten to twelve thousand dollar range.”

Rated 8 primarily for age, this unit has no visible flaws.  It was upgraded to a VTSP-3a R03 by Herron Audio in November, 2015 at which time the tubes were all replaced.  It comes with stock EH tubes, original double box, manual, and remote.

So, why am I selling?  I’ve had this preamp for about 7 years and decided to step up to Keith’s new VTSP-360
