Winning Entry-level Turntable Built at VPI's New Jersey Home

For 40 years VPI has built turntables in American and has kept it in the VPI family. For almost 30 of those years, VPI has built its turntables in Cliffwood, New Jersey. As VPI reaches a more entry level market, the company is still able to make its products in Cliffwood, New Jersey. Most companies when making entry level products source their components outside their country of origin. This is why VPI celebrates its heritage and its VPI workers by naming this turntable after the place they are built.

VPI is also excited to be teaming up with its friends from Brooklyn, Grado Labs! VPI engineered a cartridge shell specifically for the Grado to make it easier to mount and contribute to the sound signature. As a result, the VPI/Grado Green will be the factory standard mounted cartridge on all VPI Cliffwood turntables.

Cliffwood Tonearm

The Cliffwood's tonearm is a 9" machined aluminum gimbal. It is both easy and robust to use, while providing top level sonic performance. The tonearm uses a damped machined aluminum armtube and very pure internal copper wire, twisted with special insulating jacket. The arm base is upgradeable to a standard JMW 9 arm.

The Cliffwood is beautifully designed from cosmetics all the way down to the nuts and bolts for superior performance. It uses a 600 RPM AC motor with a two-speed pulley for speed change from 33-1/3 rpm to 45 rpm. The aluminum turntable platter has a diameter of 11.8 inches and rotates on an oil bath bearing. The bearing has a PEEK thrust disc and machined graphite impregnated brass bushings using a Thompson Engineering 60 Rockwell case hardened shaft. The attractively finished chassis is made of 1.25"-thick non-resonant MDF covered with textured vinyl in your choice of either 'Chocolate Truffle' or 'Ontario White' finish.

Green Phono Cartridge

So that your Clifford is ready to go right away and start serving up platters of music, it comes with a factory-mounted VPI/Grade Green phono cartridge. The cartridge uses an elliptical stylus and has a channel separation at 1 kHz of 30dB, and input load of 47K and output at 1 kHz (5CM/sec.) of 5mV.

"The VPI Cliffwood turntable compared to our reference restores a good clarity of the set, a beautiful stereo image both in depth and width between the speakers, adds to the pleasure of listening. A kind of live live with the listener. The performance of this turntable, it will be understood, is worthy of praise. At this price, it is a great success. The VPI manufacturer shows once again its know-how, this model Cliffwood is placed from the start next to the best." - Art Sonique
