A fellow contacted me a few weeks back. He
had a beautiful 60's vintage Revox reel-to-reel and he wanted to know if
I could make some hardwood sides for it. Well, sure, why not? After a
bit of back and forth we decided on some curly maple; he sent me pics.
Turned out very nice. That got me to thinking about those days when
'hifi' gear was often dressed up with nice hardwood accents. SO.....
I
have an Oppo BDP 105 that I'm quite fond of - rather ugly, or at least,
pedestrian-looking in my opinion. Doesn't look near as good as it
performs at any rate. Seemed like the perfect candidate for 'dress-up'
from my arsenal. So...walla!!
I can make these in walnut, maple, oak, teak,
mahogany, cherry, and probably a few other 'standard' hardwoods that I'm
not thinking of at the moment. My local suppliers often get more exotic
stuff at reasonable pricing (like zebrawood, lacewood, birds eye,
amazouke, purpleheart, etc), just ask. Check for my other listings.
This auction is not to sell my
BDP-105. This auction is just for custom made sides.)
Installation
couldn't be much simpler. If you can operate a Philips screwdriver:
remove the two screws on each side of the unit. Using the longer screws I
provide, install the new sides. These sides will fit BDP-105, 105D, and UDP-205 The BDP-95 are ever so slightly different. I don't have the exact specs
but I am perfectly willing to make some for anyone that wants to provide
me relevant technical details (ask me and I'll send you what you need
to measure and how.) And if you have something other than an Oppo player by all means, ask.
These are make-to-order so give me a few days to knock it out. Mainly,
all the time is in finishing or, really, waiting for finish to dry
between coats. I use my own oil-based varnish finish that I hand rub and
it usually takes 4-6 coats to get the finish where I want it.
Questions for the seller |

Hi, I'm assuming you are the same person that has these listed elsewhere available in Rosewood. Is the price better here? I have an OPPO 105D. Thanks, Brad Brad, I'm guessing that would be me. I can make anything you'd like, Black limba and walnut sets are already made. Rosewood you choose the wood (shown in the listing) and I'll make them. I have some curly maple and some ambrosia maple on hand as well. I will certainly entertain offers. I would rather sell here than...some other place. Thanks Terry |
