New drivers with double magnet and quad voice coil

The Velodyne Deep Blue DB-10 and Velodyne Deep Blue DB-12 have been specially designed to deliver impressive deep bass performance despite their compact and stylish enclosures. The essential element for this is a potent chassis that is capable of handling even large cone strokes with maximum precision. The front-firing 10 and 12 inch drivers of the two new models from Velodyne Acoustics Inc. are therefore equipped with sophisticated quad voice coils that perform their duties in oversized double magnets. As a result, energy flow and control remain constant at all times – even at high diaphragm excursions and the lowest frequencies.

Small enclosures, big sound

Even though the enclosures of the Velodyne Deep Blue DB-10 and Velodyne Deep Blue DB-12 subwoofers radiate compact and simple elegance, their construction testifies to the high level of expertise of their developers, of that Velodyne Acoustics Inc. is convinced. The generously dimensioned wall thickness of the MDF cabinet has been elaborately braced on the inside to effectively suppress resonances. Thus, the cabinet itself is acoustically unobtrusive and provides ideal working conditions for the drivers. Solid rubber feet ensure a stable stand even during rousing action films at cinema volume.

Advanced electronics

The Velodyne Deep Blue DB-10 and Velodyne Deep Blue DB-12 draw their power from carefully designed long-throw chassis and massive cabinets. Nevertheless, appropriate electronics are no less important for a modern subwoofer.

The amplifiers deliver a powerful 350 watts of continuous power and 850 watts of impulse power, making them ideal for dynamic techno tracks and impressive blockbuster films. For connection, there are RCA input sockets for left and right channels as well as a separate subwoofer input with loop-through option, so that the new woofers of the Velodyne Deep Blue Series can be operated either as an extension for smaller satellite speakers or as an LFE channel in a surround setup. Crossover frequency, phase and volume are continuously adjustable to match the existing system.

Velodyne Acoustics Inc is considered one of the most recognized specialists for high-quality deep bass systems. With the Velodyne Deep Blue Series, the latest product line is available, whereby after the flagship Velodyne Deep Blue DB-15, the models Velodyne Deep Blue DB-10 and Velodyne Deep Blue DB-12 are now also offered. These are also based on newly developed drivers which, thanks to four-layer voice coils and double ferrite magnets, work without distortion even with large diaphragm strokes. Solidly built, shapely MDF cabinets and high-quality electronics with 350 watts continuous and 850 watts impulse power are the other ingredients for two innovative subwoofers that offer impressive performance despite living-room-friendly dimensions.

Depth and pressure: The mighty power of the oceans served as a symbolic model and eponymous inspiration for the subwoofers of the Deep Blue series, abbreviated as DB. The up to 2.5 cm thick cabinet walls and 5 cm thick baffles of the new series were additionally and specifically stiffened on the inside to reduce resonances to a minimum. Thanks to the closed cabinet design – a Velodyne specialty – flow noise from reflex ports is supposed to be completely eliminated.

A new, high-performance PP High Excursion driver with a four-layer vented voice coil is also used. The Deep Blue models are powered by Velodyne's tried-and-tested Class D amplifier technology with up to 1,000 watts of peak power (DB-15). Various connection options are available for integration into existing loudspeaker setups, and the integrated variable crossover, line and speaker level inputs plus LFE input for processors give the DBs extreme flexibility. The continuously variable phase adjustment provides for precise timing and fine tuning with the main speakers.

Available in 8”, 10”, 12” and 15” these new DB subwoofer lineup is the predecessor of the successful SPL I series, a very small form factor closed box design.

The completely new rigidly braced MDF closed box design with a front firing woofer for impacting performance without any noise from the cabinet. Due to this small form factor it is easy to integrate into you listening set up. A high excursion driver with massive dual ferrite magnet and optimized internal motor technology, using a 4 layer voice coil for maximum output with extremely low distortion, following the Velodyne Acoustics design principles. Superior bass quality, for a deeper, more accurate bass performance. Line-level and speaker-level inputs let you connect this sub to just about any home audio system.

You can use the variable crossover and phase control to fine-tune the sub's output, so the bass will blend in perfectly with the mids and highs coming from your main speakers, tailor the sub's low-frequency response to the acoustics of your room.
