I upgraded to a much more expensive server... still trying to convince myself it is that much better. This is a 2012 Mac Mini with i5 processor and maximum allowed 16GB of ram, 240G solid state drive, and the Uptone Audio linear fan controller. Included is a TeraDak 12V linear power supply that replaces the stock switching supply. About as far as you can take a Mac Mini. In case you are wondering about the year, the 2012 is the one you want. The next version in 2014 uses soldered in RAM so you can't upgrade and is almost identical to the 2012 otherwise, and the newer 2018 + models can't be upgraded with the Uptone power supply/fan board.
If you were to put one together it would be about
$300 for a used Mac Mini with 16GB ram and SSD
$300 for the TeraDak supply
$150 for the Uptone fan board
Plus you need to install all of the parts so I'm just asking for $699 for it all put together AND I'll pay to ship it and eat the fees... a good price considering the power supply is heavy at least $50 to ship with insurance. Not interested in offers at this time as it is a very fair price for what you get.
It is currently wiped clean with a fresh installation of OSX Mojave waiting for you to initialize. I have it at Mojave because I was using Pure Vinyl which won't currently run on a newer OSX. . I can leave it like that or go ahead and install Catalina and/or Roon or whatever you want on it... if the software you want requires a license fee you are on the hook for that
Keep in mind if you are looking for a server/streamer the usual suspects (Innous Zenith , Aurender, etc) are all one trick ponies. You are locked into whatever software they allow. With the Mac Mini you have a huge variety of options and you can off course use it as a general use computer at the same time if you wish. This is as good as you can do for the $750 it would cost to put it together so a bargain at my price with shipping and no fees.
.
See my 20 years of extensive + feedback and buy with confidence. I've got more feedback than a lot of dealers
will include original Apple power supply in case you ever want to put it back in and an HDMI dummy load so the Mini thinks a monitor is hooked up. I used it headless but you can of course add a keyboard and monitor if you want
Questions for the seller |

Hi
Does this Mac Mini offer multichannel playback via toslink or usb? (My current 2009 Mac mini server doesn’t and I’ve ripped some of my multichannel SACD’s, DVD-A—-looking for something to playback on)
Thanks,
Steve uh... don't know. Isn't that a function of the software rather than the computer? Seems if you transfer a multichannel file to a DAC that can play multichannel it would work. I don't see where the computer would be a limiting factor. But like I said, I really don't know. Why would the USB from your Mini be different than any other computer that outputs USB? |
