Naim Prefix S with Rebuild, Z-Foils & Custom Mods by Chris West

One-of-a-kind Naim Prefix "S" MC phono stage, rebuilt and custom modded by Chris West of AV Options.

Chris performed the Prefix re-build service and Z-Foil resistor upgrade.  The Z-Foils were configured for a 100-ohm load, perfect for Dynavector, Air Tight and similar MC cartridges.  (I used the Prefix with an Air Tight PC-1S.)

In addition, the captive phono lead was replaced with a pair of high-quality WBT RCA sockets, and the captive Naim snaic was replaced with a high-grade DIN socket, allowing use of an upgraded snaic of your choice.  (I used the Prefix with a Nordost Tyr 2+ phono cable and Chord Sarum T snaic, as shown in the 3rd picture; Chris supplied the 5th through 11th pictures.)  The total cost for the rebuild and mods was $1,005.

The Prefix will ship in a nicely padded double carton supplied by Chris.

The end result is much closer to Superline than Stageline performance, at a bargain price (the Stageline now lists for $799).  (It sounded so good I decided to take the Superline plunge!)  Though I used the Prefix as a stand-alone unit, the RCA sockets can be easily replaced with a phono DIN socket for mounting inside an LP12 as originally designed.
