Dear pARTicular fan:

To our knowledge, this is the second time an original Ypsilon within the serial no 002 through 010 has been made available in almost twenty years! It is a rare occasion in other words.

YPSILON 005 is shown in the first image, it was checked thoroughly and will be sold as used unit. It had only one owner and is in very nice and original condition. Details are listed in the SPECIFICS section below.

We included images showing various Ypsilon's at customers homes to illustrate how easy it is to integrate an YPSILON. The last three image show YPSILON 001, as a reference for Zebrano shelves only. 001 was the first YPSILON built and has slightly different dimensions and features.

SPECIFICS of 005:

HISTORY of Serial number:

YPSILON  was the first suspension platform offered to the public by pARTicular in the year of 1997. It’s design and engineering was so unique, it received the prestigious International Innovations Award of the Consumer Electronics Show in the categories of Design and Engineering.  

pARTicular started out as the ultimate American Dream. A single car garage was converted to a shop with simple tooling. Due to its growth, pARTicular moved into larger spaces in the city of San Francisco, among those, the artist colony in Hunters point, where neighbours were renown sculptor’s and other furniture makers. This was the place where the owner of pARTicular manufactured YPSILON 005. It was the fifth unit of ten built by him. Any Ypsilon’s starting with serial number after that where build by the pARTicular team. The success of Ypsilon continued with the acceptance of the International GOOD DESIGN AWARD and the incorporation in the permanent collection of the MUSEUM of ARCHITECTURE and DESIGN, The Athenaeum, in Chicago in 1997.

If you happened to be at the reception of the award ceremony, you could not have missed Ypsilon. It was displayed right next to Porsche winning the Good Design Award in the car category. 

SHELVES:

One of the many superior engineering features of Ypsilon is highlighted in the versatility and functionality of the mounting system of shelves. 

ALL shelves are infinitely adjustable, allowing you to position each shelf exactly where you like it to be. You are never stuck with a predetermined and inflexible spacing that most other audio stands come with.  Why would you want to have this option? There are too many electronic equipment sizes out there not only looking awkward with too much space above or squeezed into a tight spacing.  More importantly, you might have a top loading CD player and need the extra room to load your CD’s or need better access to load and unload your tapes in your tape player.

Besides that, each piece of electronic gear benefits from the optimal amount of air-circulation to dissipate heat properly. Especially hot running tube equipment will benefit from that extra space to the next shelf above. It increases longevity of your tubes and gear. 

Infinitely moving shelves to the correct position was one of the key features and a must have when the designer did the initial drawings of Ypsilon. 

Equally important was the ability to add an extra shelf to accommodate a new piece of equipment. Maybe your passion for listening to music is growing and you like to incorporate your laptop to the system, the separate phono stage, etc. Adding a shelf takes a few minutes and it is very easy. Of course another great feature is to be able to remove a shelf to create more space for bigger/taller gear you like to incorporate. You even have the option to convert the removed shelf to an amp stand. It is on the website, listed as SOLO.

Allowing to adapt 005 to your changing needs was paramount and a crucial part of the design/engineering of 005. pARTicular products are there to last and be passed on to the next generation. They have stood the test of time and are desired keepers. 005 was not built to end up in the landfill like so many other audio stands. 

SHELF MATERIAL:

Although the previous owner took very good care of 005, the original wood shelves show some marks/discoloration where equipment has been sitting. We tried to show that in images. The shelves are not a veneer, but solid tropical hardwood called Zebrano. Although Zebrano is usually used for inlays or small areas only (due to the difficulties that arise by its alternating soft and hardwood layers) the owner of pARTicular took on the challenge to craft the entire shelf with Zebrano. He hand selected the Zebrano wood from hundreds of board feet, his main focus was to use consistent grain patterns  between shelves used for each Ypsilon. Hopefully, the images show that 005 shelves have not lost the sparkling shine and the incredible beauty of consistent grain patterns. For completeness, accuracy and honest disclosure and to avoid any surprise for the winning bidder,  we included an image showing natural cupping of shelves after two decades.  As the owner anticipated some deviation of straightness with shelves, he oriented the grain from side to side. This has the advantage that shelves look great when looking at 005 from front. An attempt can be made to refinish the shelves. Nevertheless, any solid wood will change its straightness over time naturally. We would not recommend using the shelves in their current condition. Shelves are to be considered a necessary part of having a complete and original YPSILON. We do recommend the use of  high performance acrylic shelves, piano black, as seen in images. These are top of the line shelves and are used with all our reference products. This makes 005 one of the very best audiophile isolation platforms on the market. A true reference line product. 

The unit comes with four shelves. The shelves measure 19" in width, 18" in depth. The shelves are secured with the rear rod sliding into a notch. They can't be pushed off the unit, making them safe when children are a concern. 

You can purchase extra shelves, 005 can hold five shelves. the original owner of 005 had custom ordered longer rods to have the option to add more shelves. The rods are 45" long, standard length was 40". Of course, we can offer to make original length rods at no extra charge. You would receive the 45" stainless steel rods to protect its original status and value. 

ISOLATION and RESONANCE CONTROL:

Each shelf is isolated from the full suspended stainless steel sub- frame via aluminum isolator’s. The recessed surface on the bottom of aluminum isolator (AL) minimizes the contact to the support bar it is connected to. The top of the aluminum isolator is also recessed to accommodate the specific engineered visco-elastic (VE), which is isolating the shelf above it. Pictures are included to show that configuration. One of the many key elements is,  AL+VE can and shall be positioned according to each equipment specific equipment feet location. It does matter to position isolation devices exactly in correspondence with equipment feet. In other words you have the ability, no matter, if you have small electronic gear or extra wide, to offer perfect placement of AL+VE to allow for the best possible performance of your gear. 

MAINFRAME:

The mainframe is powder coated black, can be filled with lead-shot for better resonance control and measures (+/- standard tolerances): H = 47", Width = 31", Depth = 31". 

005’s design allows you to not only display prominently on a long wall, but place it in a corner. The unique tripod design might be the perfect solution to your space limitations. 005 will fit in very small rooms and still look stunning.  See pictures.

WIRE MANAGEMENT:

This unit comes with the desired wire management upgrade, a single channel mounted on the rear left of 005. The original owner had only ordered one channel, but had specified to have holes predrilled to accommodate a second channel in the future. This would allow the new owner to separate the power plugs from the interconnecting cables, which will prevent electromagnetic interference and will produce a better reproduction of recorded music. Your passion for achieving the best possible sound is a very important part and is respected as well reflected in all of the engineering applications of 005. The extra holes did receive the stainless steel hardware, hence are not left open to see.

DESIGN:

YPSILON will make a statement in your room, you can't overlook it. It would be a perfect match for the serious audiophile or a collector of unique furniture.

We can offer two matching Duo amp stands with this Ypsilon. They can feature the high performance black piano acrylic shelf on a black frame. Details and pricing would need to be discussed. It is shown in the last image. this would enable the new owner to display seven pieces of equipment beautifully and properly isolated.

PRICE: 

Ypsilon 007 was the only other unit re-sold in the last twenty years. That sale took place in Munich, Germany. It’s price is the foundation for this price.

INVESTMENT:

The listing price is not negotiable. This is the only way to protect the value of the remaining YPSILON’s of our customers. There are only 9 units available worldwide that have been built by the founder of the company. 

The value of YPSILON (002 -010) has consistently gone up and is a true investment. It has outperformed the stock market by far. 

VERY IMPORTANT is the fact, 005 is in a wonderful condition, the frame has not been altered nor has the metal work been refinished. It shows less wear then one would expect by a product of this age. The unit is therefore very special. It is stock, ORIGINAL.

We are very excited to announce we are in the process of acquiring YPSILON 002 from the original owner. We will offer it with the high performance black acrylic shelves (4). Based on the first inspection, we would rate this unit in very good condition, similar to YPSILON 005. Should you be interested in this unit, please contact us. The unit will be sold on a first come, first serve basis and not be listed via ebay.

We have not determined the actual price, as this unit is absolutely in its own category of pricing. It is the most desired YPSILON, as it is the FIRST product that was build by the owner of the company and made available to the public. Ypsilon 001 was not sold, but kept for his private collection. It is not for sale.
