Acoustic Revive RR77 + KingRex PSU MKII [Expired]
The original box which was shipped to me from Canada holds both the KingRex PSU MKII power supply and the Acoustic Revive unit. The KingRex power supply dramatically increases the efficacy of the unit over the stock wall wart. Also included is a special 9 foot cable from the power supply to the Acoustic Revive along with a very short version of the cable as well as a wall wart. Both owners manuals are included along with a stock IEC power cord for the power supply.
The following review uses the KingRex PSU. I'm selling the RR77 with the upgraded KingRex PSU MKII (retail $350) which optimizes the audible improvements from the RR77.
Yeah, it works. I hear the same as Jeff and all the rest: improved spatial ambiance, a bigger grander more holographic soundstage/soundfield, and a greater sense of ease or naturalness to the music… yeah it works as advertised. And it works better …well, make that a lot better, with a more robust or audiophile-like power supply. Say one from the good people up at Audio-Magus… the King Rex PSU ($169.95) is quite cool and is a perfect fit for the RR-77.
The first time I powered up the RR-77, I had some music playing and was shocked by the transformation. "What the hell!" I mumbled as the RR-77 made everything more natural, smoother and more musically lifelike - a music lover's dream come true. Space opened up in the recording acoustic, notes decayed in a much more natural fashion and what little edge, grit or glare I was hearing on lesser recordings over the review system became more tolerable.
Weird science notwithstanding, the RR-77 brings a more clearly detailed and lifelike sound-field closer to the listener. The difference is best characterized as a good if sonically unengaging recording compared with an event that sounds a lot more like live music.
