Bottlehead Crack with Speedball Upgrade

Bottlehead Crack Headphone Amp just completed July 2016, with Speedball upgrade. This amp was purpose built for sale and is NEW condition.

Soldered throughout with Cardas Quad Eutectic making a nice, virtually spatter-free job.  The transformer bell was sanded and polished by hand, then clear-coated to prevent rust/discoloration; it looks quite nice and fits right in between the bright, brushed aluminum top plate and the black color of the transformer, volume knob, and jack. All edges on the wooden base have been very slightly rounded by hand sanding to soften it visually, then all surfaces sanded with 220 paper.  I’ve left it natural and finish-ready so you may alter to your décor.  Likewise, I have not attached the Bottlehead badge and it will accompany the package.

“Okay but…besides that, what do I get for your $600 price?”  The Speedball upgrade does better the amp with a blacker, quieter background, and is worth the cost.  (If you want a Crack without Speedball, which is still a gem of an amp, or another Bottlehead product, contact me, I’ll build you one.)  You get a beautiful, clean build with no cold joints/opens, no solder blobs, no singed wires shorting out. I use a temperature controlled soldering station alternating between three different tips to best control solder application to size of terminals and component.  

Finally, the amp was burned in for (4) 6-hour cycles with phones & music, voltages given a final check,  Packaging is thorough double-boxing to assure safe arrival, with plastic covering the assembled plate, and brown paper wrapping protecting the wooden base.  Tubes are packed in bubble wrap with cardboard wrap, with power cord, Bottlehead badge, and my notes regarding various power/input tube combinations I’ve tried in the amp, as well as a brief primer in case you are new to tube
amplification.  

This is an amp designed for higher impedance headphones.  It is up to you to ensure your headphones are compatible.  Specs are input impedance of 100K ohms, output impedance 120 ohms, gain 15dB into a 300 ohm load and max output about 10V into a 300 ohm load.
